This book is so good I am going to have to get a couple of extra copies for my friends. It explains everything you need to know about shopping in spain, and cooking Spanish food. Unlike some cook books the recipies are authentic and simply written. Good introduction to ingredients, regional information and methods used. I don't live in Spain so it is still applicable and all the more interesting for those who don't.

My Mother bought this book about 20 years ago via the ex-pat magazine Lookout and it's been used so many times they have had to purchase a new copy. I still have the original (with foodstains included!) and according to my Father who is Spanish and was a Food and Beverage Manager for a Major International Hotel-Chain for over 20 years, this book is the best book he has ever found on the subject.
Janet Mendel has collected these recipes by travelling into the villages of Spain and asking the local women to show her what is what and how to cook it.
If you love Spanish cooking this book is indispensable. Alternatively, 1080 Recipes by Simone Ortega is also good but not as simple as this book.

Bought this on a holiday to Spain where I didn't like Madrid much but loved the food. Since then have made loads of the recipes in this book. They are all fabulous! Often simple, sometimes with really few ingredients but delicious. Can't rate it highly enough.

I am spanish and i have to say that this book is the best about spanish cooking i have ever read, not even from spanish authors. absolute a must . Perfect if we can say so.
