5.0 out of 5 stars Reissue of Vegetarian Goddess...still one of the best!, 5 Oct 2003
By A Customer
As the title states, this is a reissue of Recipes from a Vegetarian Goddess, which is the most beloved and most dog-eared book in my kitchen library. Recipes are organized by season and type, and are indexed in several ways, so it's easy to find what you are looking for. The dishes themselves are fantastic--relatively simple but very interesting, no hard-to-find ingredients, easy to 'play with' and add your own embellishments (including meat if you so desire), and just plain yummy. Everything I make from this book has met with rave reviews, and many have become family staples.

The idea of cooking with the seasons is not a new one, but Ms. Allrich reintroduces it in a beautiful way that makes sense. There are some gentle Pagan and Goddess references inside, but if that's not your cup of tea they won't change your enjoyment of this book. I am ordering several copies for non-Pagan friends who keep borrowing my copy. Highly, highly recommended.

I also suggest checking out Karri Ann's second cookbook, Cooking By Moonlight. This is more overtly Pagan, and the recipes and easy format are superb. Some of the dishes do contain meat, but there are vegetarian alternatives noted. It rates as my second-most used cookbook, the third being Nava Atlas' "Vegetarian Soups for all Seasons". Buon appetito!
