Product Description

Product Description

Living on one's own is just as likely to be a matter of choice as not and the numbers adopting this lifestyle are increasing all the time. Yet the joys of cooking for one - it takes less time, washing up is minimal, and you can indulge yourself with cuts such as fillet steak which for larger numbers would be prohibitively expensive - are frequently overlooked. The 150 specially devised recipes included here, such as Chicken Milanese, Salt and Pepper Prawns, Baby Pumpkin Gratin and Baked Eggs with Spinach, focus on what the single person really wants to eat - quick and easy last-minute suppers and mid-week treats to lazy weekend meals - not cut-down recipes for four. So whether you are a career girl, a student, an empty-nester or merely a man left to his own devices for a few days, this book will prove invaluable.

About the Author

This book marks a new direction for Amy Willcock, who has previously written six Aga cookery books and been described by Nigella Lawson as the 'hand-holder to Aga owners everywhere'. Here she focuses her considerable expertise on the particular demands of cooking just for one. She holds regular entertaining and cookery and workshops around the UK, has two young children, plus a husband and various animals. She also writes a monthly column for The Shooting Gazette and regularly for magazines such as Homes and Gardens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Cooking for One, 15 Jun 2009
Loved this book. Written with imagination and flair, not the usual one-pot efforts that are good enough for singletons. No, flowers on the table should be de rigueur, plus a beautiful glass of wine. These recipes are gorgeous, enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars cooking for one; 150 Recipes to treat yourself, 12 Jun 2009
This is the long-awaited new take on cooking for singletons. There are plenty of books out there for quick and easy single recipes but nothing for those that love to cook and experiment, want a special meal for themselves without having to wrestle with fractional menus or even a practise run for entertaining without having to cook dinner for 4. For a nation inspired by celebrity chefs and hours of TV shows showing how others produce the 'perfect plate of food' now we know how to do it for ourselves!

1.0 out of 5 stars Life's Too Short!, 2 Jun 2009
By Sue "Martin's Aunty" (North Yorks, UK) - See all my reviews
I made a resolution recently to cut down on ready meals, but I am not a good or experienced cook, and I only have myself to cook for, so I thought this book would be a godsend. I was wrong. Am I really going to cook "Roasted Quail with Rosemary and Quince"? Do I really want to make "Roast Grouse with Orange and Juniper" or "Calves' Sweetbreads in Cream Sauce"? I think not. In future, if I want to cook something myself I will stick to scrambled eggs or the good old jacket potato. And if I have to cook anything else - well, isn't that why God invented Marks and Spencer>
