More About the Author

Carolyn Humphries was born and brought up in Somerset. Her grandmother was a professional cook and taught her all her skills. She produced her first Sunday lunch at the age of nine! She always aspired to become a cookery editor and writer and, after training as a journalist and a stint as a restaurant chef, became a cookery writer and then Deputy Cookery Editor on Woman magazine in the mid 1970s. Since then she has written for numerous magazines, been a consultant on many books and is the author of over 60 of her own - mostly cookery and health-related ones but also Really Simple English Grammar (recommended by John Clare in the Daily Telegraph), Modern Wedding Etiquette and Paint Your Life a Brighter Shade of Green (she feels really strongly about the environment). With a passion for good food, she cares deeply about what we eat and where it comes from. She is dedicated to promoting healthy eating, encouraging everyone to buy British, local produce, when possible, and also suports Fairtrade.

If you haven't bought the other books, curries and spicy and Med one this book is worth the money. If you have then quite a few are duplicated, tho cunningly enough with different titles! SO, if you only want one slow cooker book you could buy this, but if you have the other two, then I would think twice!

This Slow Cooking series will provide a cheap and easy access to the wonders of slow cooking.

They are quite basic, with very few pictures and definitely not printed on deluxe paper, but for a few quids, think of them as an introduction to slow cooking. Some recipes are also copied from one volume to the next, with minor adjutments to the theme of the book. But on the whole, they are all fairly easy and fast to prepare, and most of them on a tight budget.

If you like the food, then you will most certainly get a bigger, thicker and better book. But for this price, you will get good value for your money here, and a great introduction to a fascinating world.

Being quite an enthusiastic convert to slow cooking, I found this book very helpful in adding to the variety of my dishes by visiting the cuisine of other countries. It is easy to follow and the ingredients can be sourced in this country.
