If the more contemporary piano trios like Phronesis and The Bad Plus don't do it for you then this album probably will. Leon Greening is one of the most underrated pianists on the British jazz scene and is a true keeper of the Be-Bop flame. He makes no apologies for his adoration of the classic jazz pianists like Bud Powell,Bobby Timmons and Wynton kelly and delivers one of the hardest swinging trio sets I have heard in years.
American altoist Vincent Herring joins the party for three cuts and British tenorist alex Garnett joins Herring for the third track which is a serious Be-Bop workout for all concerned.
"Know not one" is for me the pick of the album and is a great piece of two handed Barrel house Blues.
A great album form an emerging talent in British jazz.
