Book Description

2 July 2009

Beauty Cookson is no beauty. She's a plain, timid girl who constantly feels inferior to the super-confident, snooty girls at school. Worse than the teasing in the playground, though, is the unpredictable, hurtful criticism from her father. Beauty and her meek, sweet mother live in uneasy fear of his fierce rages, sparked whenever they break one of his fussy house rules.

Eventually, after an unbearable birthday party and the very real threat of Dad's out-of-control temper, Mum and Beauty run away. Finding themselves in a quiet, idyllic seaside village, their new-found freedom and a moment of culinary inspiration give them a hobby, an income and even a new nickname for Beauty. Can they begin a happier, sweeter life - without Dad?

A charming, page-turning and heart-warming story from this beloved author.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book about a girl called Beauty. 13 July 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a great book about a girl called Beauty. She was teased at school about her name and her looks in the playground. In the end Beauty changes her name to Cookie and she and her Mum start to do cooking together. So in the end the girls at school don't tease her any more.

If you like reading books, this will be an amazing book for you to read. It's called Cookie by Jacqueline Wilson.

By the way, if you like Tracey Beaker from the TV series you would like Jacqueline Wilson - as she writes all of the books like Midnight, Lilly Alone and Lottie's Project - and many more. You can find them in libraries at school and out of school as well.

This book is good for people aged 8 to 10.
I think it is good so you might like it too.

I will give this book 4/5 stars.

Amy

A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I'm a ten year old girl reading Jacqueline Wilson's books. She is my favourite author and I've read nearly all her books. This book can be very emotional at times and be very funny too! I'd recommend this book for people 8+. This is my favourite Jacqueline Wilson book and I can't wait for her next one. I couldn't put it down! Its one of those books you get addicted to. If you like Cookie then I'd recommend My Sister Jodie and Candyfloss. So if I were you I'd get it!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best jacqueline wilson novel 8 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I thought this book was OK at first. However, I have glasses, green eyes, brown hair and am short so this book was basically saying I was 'ugly' because I'm not stereotypically a barbie? And Skye who looks like this, is a bully. ISn't that a bit of a cliche? Also, the story line is a less exciting version of Lola Rose really.
I don't see how not liking pets is so bad, of course her dad is strict but how is that so dreadful Beauty has to run away? And then her dad is forgotten about while BEauty gets a bad haircut while her mum does some cooking and the ending is too perfect.
However , the writing style was good and it was excitable, and I got a free cookie tin. ^_^
Overall an average book but not JW's best. I recomend Lola Rose if you want a book with a similar plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cookie - Wilson at her best 19 Mar 2012

Format:Paperback
Brilliant book as always from Jacqueline Wilson - probably her best. She manages to sustain the exciting plot and keep that exaggerated I've-lost-everything scenarios. Cookie
