Product Description
Christians of all denominations - and non-Christians - look to Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali as an authority on the role of religion in conflict and peace-making. Here, he gets to the roots of such conflict. Michael Nazir-Ali comes from a family background which is both Christian and Muslim. He is thus well qualified to tackle the subject of this new book in which he examines the role of religion in society and, especially, the relationship of religion to conflict. This is perhaps the key issue in international affairs today. The bishop considers the nature of dialogue in the light of the history of relations between people of different faiths, particularly Muslims and Christians. He has a special concern for the relationship of religion to the state, to law and to the justifiability of armed conflict. He argues for a wider exchange between cultures and countries but always with a respect for the integrity of religions and cultures, especially of Islam and Christianity. With this as a basis, Bishop Michael goes on to suggest ways forward for religious traditions to contribute positively to world order.
