Book Description

Dare to Wear Crochet in More Ways Than One
Convertible Crochet is a brand new way to think about crochet fashion, exploded lace motifs, and flattering silhouettes. Award-winning designer Doris Chan helps you get more out of crochet with these endlessly adaptable patterns and techniques that can work with a variety of different looks, personal styles, and body shapes. You'll learn to personalize these designs by easily making alterations, adding removable elements, or simply styling the piece in an ingenious new way. Make it once. Wear it again and again.

Product Description

"Chan works in module style, explaining how to make one motif and then expand it into stylist wraps, dresses, and scarves. Chan's use of lace makes her designs both classic and hip, avoiding the bulky heaviness that regular crochet can have." "--Publisher's Weekly"

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever conversions 19 July 2013

I love this book. There are not so many motifs, but each is beautiful (balanced and lacy) - and then there are the many ways to convert it. Convert both the motif from the number of points (square, pentagon etc) and the many ways of converting the garment to suit your own needs. The other wonderful thing about this book is that you could easily complete multiples of a motif, and then if you don't feel confident about making up a garment, there are ways to use the same collection of motifs as a scarf or wrap. My next shopping trip is to buy the necessary yarn and start to experiment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convertible Crochet 22 July 2013

I wouldn't say that this was a book for an absolute novice in crochet but you certainly don't need to be at an advanced stage. I, personally, like Doris' patterns as she gives quite a lot of detail but some people think there's too much detail, each to their own! One thing to be aware of, Doris' patterns are written in US crochet terminology so if you are used to UK terminology, you'll need to mentally "translate".

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging but well worth a read. 25 April 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found this book very interesting and am currently trying some of the patterns. The only drawback for me is that it uses American crochet terminology and yarn descriptions but I'm managing to interpret quire well. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be a bil more adventurous in their crochet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing designs 5 Oct. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love this book. The designs are wonderful. This is suitable for anyone who knows the basic stitches. Unfamiliar stitches (do an Internet search). The written instructions are clear and so to are the drawings (patterns). Pictures of designs are wonderful and inspiring. Worth every penny.

I enjoy crocheting lacy projects but have not really tried working with motifs for garments, this gave me so many ideas to try, but because it is not a book of formal patterns it is a little bit more difficult to use, but if you want a guide on how to explore ways of making unique garments then this is ideal. Not for the beginner though, you need to be confident in reading instructions that are not always precise. I am looking forward to trying out more ideas.

I only started crocheting a year ago and loved Doris Chan's designs from the start. What is even better is that even as a novice I can complete some of the projects and learn techniques that take me to the next level with this brilliant designer. Oh heads up if you are a sci-fi fan, so is Doris. I get a kick out of recognising characters and places from my favourite TV shoes.

Very happy with the service. Already start working on some of the models. The lase dresses are so lovely. The patterns are very nicely explained, easy to follow indications on how to realise the patterns and assemble the flowers together. Thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book 7 Mar. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I saw this book in a craft shop and had to have it. I absolutely love the style in this book. The patterns ate for the more advanced crocheted, but with concentration and patience it can be achieved by the less experienced of us
