I've bought this converter with a few intentions. 1 is to connect to my projector and 2 is to connect to one of my old crt tv and 3 use this with another notebook if mine to connect to tv.
Case 1 - Connection to projector
The converter works perfectly with the rca out. Although normally projectors will have the vga video in, however, this particular projector's vga doesn't really work well. Hence, I've gotta use the rca instead. Works perfectly.
Case 2 - Connection to tv
Doesn't work. Upon more reading up, the vga to s-video only works if and only if the notebook supports tv-out from the vga. However, most notebooks doesn't have vga tv out from the display card. Doesn't work at all.
Case 3 - Connection from macbook to tv
I have an old white macbook and according to the website, it should have tv out from the mini dvi. I've tried connecting using a mini-dvi to vga converter and then using this vga to s-video converter and to my crt tv. It doesn't work. In my thinking it should work if it is just a simple wire connections, however it doesn't. Probably I will need the mini-dvi to s-video direct if I want to connect my macbook to tv.
However, I am still giving this product review a 4/5 because it actually still does what it is meant to and probably you just need to do all the technical reading up and make sure your hardware works.

This cable may not work with your PC or laptop. Here's why:
Normal laptops and PC's output RGB on pins 1,2 and 3, with a h-sync on pin 13.
This cable does not appear to connect to those pins. Instead its yellow composite socket connects to pins 6 and 10...
Now I can't confirm this, but I think those are the pins used on some (not many) PC's if the 15 pin socket has the capability to run TV-out rather than standard RGB output. Many laptops won't do this - it's very hardware and software dependant.
I will not complain about the seller's description, as they do mention that your PC/laptop has to do TV-out signalling. Be aware of this before ordering - check your PC/laptop instructions or support information first. Neither of the two laptops I have here will output TV (composite) through the video port, and they are both less than 2 years old.. So it's not dependant on the age of the laptop.
The build quality of the cable is fine - just make sure your PC will actually give the correct output before buying !

took a chance on this since it was cheap and was looking for an easy way to hook my dreamcast up to a computer monitor. however to cut the story short it didnt work and i just ended up chucking it in the bin the same day it arrived. so if you were like me and think you can set up a games console to a monitor this way dont bother.
