5.0 out of 5 stars Like it! 20 Dec 2011
By Dan
Format:Kindle Edition
I liked this book. Its straight to the point and offers practical ideas I find myself using.
There`s no fluff, no filler and no theory just ideas that work when I`m socialising or even at work
when I want to get to know people better.

I particularly liked the Conversation Acceleration techniques. There are some clever ways there
to make sure I never get stuck for words.

Got this for my nephew. I can only say that he has blossomed since reading it. It was really impressive the way it seems to have helped him. I can only recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful to the right reader 17 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I know some reviews are saying this book states the obvious, but for some people it may may not be. I found a lot of it was stuff I did know, but even so, it was a useful guide for someone like me who is usually shy, suffering from low-self esteem or unsure what to say to new people. Also it helped me to understand what was happening when a conversation did flow right away. So if you feel like you need a bit of good advice, then this book is cheap enough and accessible enough to help you along.

2.0 out of 5 stars easy to read, very basic 19 April 2013
By Karl
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading the book I realised that either I am already a good conversationalist or the standards proposed by 'Conversation Lubricants' are too basic. The book offers insight to important aspects of conversation - like unspoken communication, gestures, eye contact, topics to avoid - but presents them in a broad context. It lacks situational advice and depth.
Nevertheless, an easy read and might help people stress and memorise the most basic keys to success of social interactions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very useful book 11 Dec 2012
By Martina
Format:Kindle Edition
I got this book for my niece, who is very shy. She's also young and she responds well to direct and straight talk.
I read the book before I gave it to her and found it really practical and useful. The author doesn't write in convolute ways, but he conveys the message in a clear, direct manner. Some of the stuff mentioned in the book may appear obvious, but we shouldn't assume it's obvious for everyone.

As we grow up we tend to forget how difficult it was to talk to strangers when, as teenagers, we'd get to a party, or even when we had to make conversation with our parents' friends, who had nothing in common with us, and so on. We may not have a problem now, but perhaps we had it then.

Even in our adult life, we can get stuck. We may be extrovert and friendly, but what do you do if the other person is not responding? or if the topic of conversation is highly controversial? I found myself in these situations in the past, and I had no idea how to go about it. These issues, and many more, are covered in this book, so I definitely will be treasuring some of the tips I found in there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pocket Guide 7 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What a great book, ideal in fact to carry in your pocket (a small kindle!), that way, you can remind yourself what you should be saying when all too often on a bad day you just want to let off steam and tell everyone what a bad day you are having, no one wants to hear that! In short, a highly recommended kindle (pocket sized) guide to getting along with your neighbours!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what it says on the tin 18 Dec 2011
By Jen
Format:Kindle Edition
For the shy people out there I would definitely recommend this book.

It wont reveal some great mystical secret and you may read some bits and think I know this already - but then why aren't you using these tools already!? Self help books are all about stating the obvious and putting things in such a way that you can't help but follow the great advice contained within.

The style of this book makes it unique in that you can dip in and out of it when you need to. When you are confronted with a particularly stressful or new social situation this book can help you build up a bank of conversation starters that will help you feel more confident going into it.

This book wont be for everyone - if you already think you're a great conversationalist you shouldn't be looking at this in the first place, but for all those wall=flowers out there, give it a read!

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit disapointing!
Felt as if the author used repetition to really pad this one out. Also the syntax in some parts of this manual are truly awful, not to mention some real clangers, i.e. Read more
