DESCRIPTION
Convergent Space is a dramatic sci-fi adventure / space opera.
It is the first book in a series, with the second book due out in 2012.
It's nearly 130,000 words. Great value for money.

THE STORY
Jump to a few hundred years from now…

Earth is a faded galactic power in a violent galaxy. Blamed for an event 200 years earlier that destroyed thousands of worlds and turned the galaxy upside-down, Earth has been shunned by galactic society ever since.

Now they have a chance to turn that around.

Meanwhile in the outer fringes of the galaxy, a powerful new force is emerging from the ashes. Ruthless and unstoppable, this colossal army is approaching the central planets with one aim – to cleanse the entire galaxy.

Rone Tintet is one of Earth’s immense army of space-faring investigators. She discovers an artefact that may reveal what really happened 200 years ago and resurrect Earth’s fortunes. She embarks on a journey that takes her half-way across the galaxy but will there be anything left when she returns?

In Convergent Space these two stories - one in the past, one happening right now - intertwine into a dramatic and unexpected finale.

This is an enjoyable story that has some lovely ideas in it. I particularly liked the ideas about the Phlegar race and their burn ships as well as the situation of Earth in this particular time line of galactic history. It's not drossy sci-fi, but not hard core either - somewhere in the middle - if that makes sense! If you enjoy Banks and Reynolds etc. then this is a more relaxed read although dealing with similar ideas scale wise. The characters are OK but felt a little under developed - but maybe this is because the books pacing is pretty quick and doesn't mess about with anything unnecessary. It's story all the way and you get a feel for the quest which the main characters participate in. Definitely worth a read for all sci-fi fans - recommended.

This is a piece of space opera reminiscent of golden age sci-fi. The characters are a bit backgrounded (although not weak, just not the most important thing in the story) but the plot and most of all, the universe it happens in, are lovingly-well imagined and described. I really enjoyed reading this. Earth occupies an interestingly ambiguous position for most of the back-story, which is a nice touch and definitely had me intrigued to find out what had really happened.

Humans cannot always be the good guys now can they? Despised for failing, and in failing they destroyed a galactic culture, humanity is desperately seeking proof that it wasn't their fault.

A heroine who doesn't want to one. A mission impossible. A backdrop of violence and intrigue on a galactic scale.

This book really was unputdownable. Perhaps one of the best new sci-fi authors I've been lucky enough to discover on my Kindle.

If you like sci-fi, if you like mystery, if you like space-war, then this is a book you, like me, will love!

Poor stuff
I bought this title based on the various 5* reviews. Many seemed to mention that it was "Unputdownable". Wrong. I almost never fail to finish a book, but this one defeated me. Read more

Gripping but showing a lack of understanding of Physics
This book is an enjoyable space opera. However... I find myself stopping thinking about the plot every time there's something that doesn't make sense.

A good read, not much mental effort required
This book is built around some good ideas. There are also some good engaging characters. There isn't much depth and the science is definitely at the "soft" end of the spectrum. Read more
