Product Description

Product Description
This book takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the control of behaviour, drawing on the work of psychologists, neurophysiologists and ethologists. It describes those factors, both internal and external, that have been shown to control behaviour. Some behaviours are rhythmic, involving cyclic changes in the amount of hormone secreted. Other behaviours, such as aggression, are a response to external factors. Animals and humans may respond to identifiable stimuli in their environment in a particular way, but at other times the response to a stimulus may be difficult to predict. In this book, both rhythms and motivation are explored and the links between them emphasized, leading to explanations of the control of behaviour at both the behavioural and neurophysiological levels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Of interest to psychologists, biologists & ethologists alike, 6 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Book 5 of the now defunct Open University D206 course Biology: Brain and Behaviour. It concentrates on motivation, biological clocks (circadian rhythms), agression and stress, all of which are linked in an easy to read and methodical order. The diagrams, graphs and other illustrations enhance the text in a non-intrusive manner that promotes learning. This, coupled with the 'in text questions' and end of chapter summary, objectives and questions make it an ideal learning aid for anyone with an interest in biology, psychology, ethology or the neurosciences.
