This little add-on for Contour cameras does a simple job and does it well. Basically, it allows your camera to replay live footage to an iPhone or Android phone (with the free app installed).
I was intersted in this so that I can check where the camera's pointing and what it can see before I film my epic adventures. Sure, the camera has a pair of laser sights on it to help you judge where it's aiming but it still doesn't give you a good idea of what's actually being filmed. With this card and the app on your phone you get to see EXACTLY what the camera is seeing.
Setting it up is pretty straightforward, just plug the device in (next to the battery - there's a blanking card in by default) press a hidden button to turn the card into bluetooth "pairing" mode and then add the new device to your phone's bluetooth list. Once it's paired you can start up the Contour App and get a live feed.
OK so the frame rate is pretty poor, you won't get anywhere near 30fps, but it's certainly enough to get a good idea of where it's looking and what it can see, so making finer adjustments to your camera's position is easier than ever before.
Is it worth the money? To be honest, it seems a shame that this wasn't included in the basic functionality of the camera and I'd consider it a moderately expensive, optional accessory. Different mounting options are, ultimately, more important for your camera than this. But if you're repeatedly frustrated by the positioning of your camera then this gives you a way of making sure that the view won't be ruined by any unsightly (and unintended) obstructions.

Really nice and handy equipment for your Contour camera. It helped a lot in positioning the camera on my helmet and making better videos.
I bought this to communicate between my ContourGPS and my iPhone 4, via the free Contour app (downloadable from the App Store).
As long as you don't expect miracles, this works great. It's easy to connect the two: turn the camera on, hold down the "secret" bluetooth button in front of the record switch for a few seconds, release and the camera will beep and the light on the front glows blue, turn on bluetooth on the iPhone, select "Contour GPS" on the phone's bluetooth menu to connect the two, then open the Contour app. This works for me every time without complaint or interruption.
The app is very useful for programming the camera's two settings, and also for framing shots. The image it provides doesn't have a high refresh rate or exceptional colours, but then it is only using bluetooth. However, this effectively gives the little camera a bigger and clearer preview screen than any other POV camera, so for accurate framing it has no equal. Note that the camera turns bluetooth off (so loses the connection) when you start recording, presumably because it's got enough else to think about.
The card is easy to install, effortless to use and adds useful functionality. It very nearly loses one of its five stars from me because it's a shame that Contour didn't include it in the camera in the first place!
