5.0 out of 5 stars Contents under review. 29 Sep 2004
A must for every Rush fan, this book is a great companion to the latest 30 year tour programme, 270 good quality pictures, ok,
lots youve seen before, but there's shots of all the album covers
and backstage passes, candids of the guys etc.
The book is chaptered in album order, and Martin Popoff gives some of his personal views on songs and tour information,
album art work, well researched it is too,
but the pearls of great wisdom come from Geddy,Alex and Neil themselves, they have looked back and listened to each album in turn and give their honest opinion, somtimes very funny anecdotal
stories about recording, touring and of course the music itself.
A really good read, great interviews with the band.
Thanks Martin Popoff, but thanks to Rush for 30 brilliant years of music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Food for thought 8 Feb 2005
Contents Under Pressure is a very detailed album-tour-album-tour diary of events. Its fairly well written and presented, although by the time I had finished it, I was left wanting more - hungry for Rush trivia, personal insights, warmth, human emotion, something! There was some stuff I found interesting, but the often annoying interjection of the author's views on certain albums was not what I wanted to read, neither was it the endless list of support acts for most of their tours, nor was it details on floodlit volleyball games during recording sessions. I don't know ... maybe I'm hard to please.
And whilst I continue to knock the book, I was surprised to see pictures of Neil in the 'Early years' and 'Rush' chapters considering he wasn't in the band then (why no pictures of Mr. Rutsey?) and I must say that many of the pictures in the book are in old tour programmes anyway so not a lot was new. That fact is I don't know what I wanted from the book. It doesn't set out to be an historical account of the band as such (which I knew before I read it), nor an insight into the personalities of Geddy, Alex and Neil (a greater feeling of this can be found on disc two of Rush In Rio). But it was neither one thing nor the other and I'm still hungry.
Which reminds me ... there was no mention of the soup!

1.0 out of 5 stars contents overrated 4 Jan 2006
Frankly, this book seems like it was sketched out on the back of "access all area" passes ... between drinks.
I'm not sure why the author thought a recitation of support act names (but little or no supporting detail) and tour lengths (with practically no additional information) would suffice. But it didn't!
A Fantatsic collection of high quality (marketing - easily available - already publisged???) photos and little else.
Almost no insight, very little in the way of new information and band interviews that (I suspect) were culled from articles already in the public domain and (perhaps) a few one on one interviews that the author has already ben paid for!
In short, give it a miss.
Try Mr Collin's piece, I haven't got mine YET, but I have every faith that he will have at least TRIED to provide the die hard fan with something worthy of their faith!
