I thought that Flo wrote the "bible" on round reed baskets with her first book and she has out-done herself with this 2nd one. If you are experienced at making baskets with round reed and you want a challenge, get this book. If you need a good reference to start with simpler baskets, get her first one. This book has some stunning baskets. She gives excellent illustrations and directions anyone can follow. As a teacher of basketry I would not be without it for reference and a source for many beautiful baskets for my students to make.

Fantastic Baskets 21 Jun. 2011

Flo Hoppe is the best teacher and creator I know when it comes to baskets woven with round reed. Her patterns are amazing in shape, color, and weaving techniques. Look at any photo in this book and you'll want to make the basket. I would give this book a 5-star review except for the fact that the patterns aren't self-contained. Every time you choose a pattern to weave, you must then go to another part of the book, which you must find by using the index page, to study the technique that you will use on that part of the basket. So it's back and forth, back and forth, from pattern to another part of the book. For one who isn't a highly accomplished weaver who remembers every technique, it is annoying to have to find the technique in the index, study it on the page it's on, go back to the pattern, and employ the technique. Despite this, a great book, very worth having. I have, in fact, two copies of this book: the original, which has a spine, and the self-published version, which is identical except for the fact that it's spiral bound and therefore lies flat. If you have a choice, buy the self-published version with the spiral binding: much easier to use!

A Variety of Baskets 17 Nov. 2001

Format: Paperback
This Basket book has baskets to make for all skill levels.
Some are more intrakit. some are very plain, but very pretty
for every day use. This book has very good picture for instruction of the various weaves. I take a class in basket making and one of the other students had the book and I knew I
needed this book to make baskets. It also has colored pictures which I like.
Couldn't take her class. 16 Feb. 2014

While at a Basket Convention in Massachusetts I had already signed up for other classes and couldn't attend Flo's (it was filled before I could sign up for it) so I purchased the book. I am now signed up for her class in Sarasota, FL and can't wait to take it. The book has some awesome pictures and excellent step by step instructions. Looking forward to making may of her designs.

Excellent book for experienced basket makers. Many new and different techniques illustrated and explained. Order the library edition if possible; the wire binding tends to tear the pages if you use the book much, as you will.
