Extracts and tips from the book... The bride and groom have spent a lot of time and energy on their wedding details and it is your job to capture them for the album.
Trust in the photographer is the catalyst for successful group photographs. That trust is gained from a confident and sound technical approach combined with refined people skills. Diplomatic handling of people is essential, as is clear guidance when arranging poses. It is the photographer s responsibility to guide, direct, and make the right decisions instantly. Any display of indecision or weakness will be exploited greedily by the group and the situation will deteriorate.
Use a wide to medium telephoto zoom lens to fill the frame for details. Remove distracting backgrounds by going in close to the subject, with wide apertures for shallow depth of field. Choose a lens with close-focusing capability. When photographing very small objects, such as rings, a macro lens of around 50-105mm would be useful.
