A coffee-table book

If you want a pretty book for your coffee table or for a dentist office, buy this book. Just a bunch of examples beautifully illustrated with accompanying miniscule descriptions that make the book good as a "read-on-the-go" option. But if you want a serious book this is not it. There is no serious attempt to present the reader with a coherent or logic choice of examples (the examples are organized alphabetically by the name of the designer!!!), and certainly no serious discussion on urban design. Actually, in the introduction's first line the book welcomes you with the incredibly distorted understanding of urban design as "...an architectural discipline that falls into the category of landscape architecture". This is certainly the worst definition of urban design I have come across with. The book looks like a catalog of firms who paid to feature their projects. After some trouble I finally found out who the editor was: the credits are given in very small font in the last page....and perhaps this is deserving. Having taught urban design for many years, this book is very disappointing and I will return it as soon as possible.
