'will appeal to collectors and artists alike' Glass Circle News, Vol. 33 No. 1 'A must for the glass/ceramic artists who wish to further their knowledge in kiln-formed glass' Kent Potters Newsletter

Product Description

This book is a follow-on from the author's previous bestselling title, Techniques of Kiln-formed Glass (1997). In recent years, kiln forming has taken over from glassblowing as the major glass art form, and where the last book was very much a guide to techniques, this one looks at artists putting them into practice. It is an overview of the contemporary scene, with most of the book showcasing the work of about 50 international glass makers using kiln-formed glass, with an account of their making techniques and artists statements. Contemporary Kiln-formed Glass also discusses the latest developments in the field in terms of materials and methods over the last 10 years. It also looks back at the fascinating history and background of glass in the art world, and uncovers new research into Amalric walter, one of the most innovative artists to develop glass in 3D forms in the kiln.

Great practical book 10 Dec 2009
Keith Cummings has a well deserved reputation for innovative research and writings in the area of kiln formed glass. Unlike some of his contemporaries, I actually think he sets outs to inform and educate the broader community of interest in the hope this will lead to further developments. I've been a fan for many years and this most recent book only serves to increase my respect for him. Sometimes there can be some verbosity about esoteric questions but when it comes to the glass, the explanations are complete, practical, intelligible and capable of providing the basis for some further experimentation by the reader.

Excellent!! 22 Mar 2010
I can only give this 5 stars. Again, Keith Cummings has produced a book that is filled with eye opening and thought provoking text and images. The chapter on Amalric Walter was, for me, inspiring and possibly life changing within the context of my work. As always, Mr Cummings is encouraging the reader to not just copy, but to take the ideas and techniques presented and take them to another level.

I read it from cover to cover in a few sessions and it's now a constant source of inspiration and reference and a welcome addition to my library.

Highly recommended.
