5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Detailed Knits 4 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful book, full of information and lovely big photos.
Carol really knows her knits - the patterns are superb. All written from a seamless or nearly seamless perspective so that you aren't working in small pieces and trying to figure out how they all go together at the end. But rather adding to the first piece and building it up as you go so that you know that the garment fits you as you progress through the pattern.
There is detail in each pattern that will actually teach you as you work through it - short row shoulders and sleeve caps, etc.
I love the patterns and I've already got orders from OtherHalf for one of the men's garments.
Excellent - well worth the money.

This is a book to be savoured! I have read it from cover to cover, and bought the wool from Donegal for the green honeycomb cabled jacket for my next project (try eBay for the manufacturer). Just gorgeous!

3.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring collection 30 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh dear .... again another uninspiring book of knitting patterns. Sadly, despite the title, I found these patterns to be firmly lodged in another time, definitely not in the 21st century - the only thing that is contemporary is the fact that the patterns are chart based. There is only one item in this book that had me rushing out to buy yarn ... the rest of them, well, nothing to inspire at all .... There is an interesting potted history of knitting in Ireland and yarn production from sheep to shop, but as far as the patterns are concerned, as I say, nothing to write home about.

These are nearly all beautiful knits that have a wholly contemporary feel. Not too sure about a knitted skirt but the hats and jumpers are delightful. Read more
