This is the text to accompany the Contemporary International Basketmaking exhibition currently touring various venues in the UK. The book gives an excellent historical review of the development of basketry from all of the major traditions and looks in detail at the work of the makers who contributed to the exhibition and puts into context the work that is being done by today's basketmakers. An excellent read as well as a good reference. Don't buy this if you are looking for a how-to book, this is not a book of recipes, but it does give insights into the designs and techniques in use in the contemporary end of the craft. Readers may puzzle a little over such terminology as "sheet rock bullets" as used in the basket on the cover (plasterboard screws we call them!) but this is a must-have for anyone who is trying to push the envelope of the craft of basketry.

A beautiful exhibition catalog and far more!

This is a real sleeper of a coffee table book for basket makers, collectors and enthusiasts of this craft in particular or the arts in general.
It accompanied an exhibition, but offers much more than great color photos of an amazing variety of approaches to the craft by really top people.
There's a history of modern basket making, lots of 2-page "Artists' Voices" (picture/philosophy combos), and specialized chapters on 8 different techniques.
If, for inspiration or reference, you want a knockout survey of the most wild and gorgeous art pieces being made today, this is your book!
