Book Description

30 Dec 2008
From the acclaimed author of Infected comes an epic and exhilarating story of humanity’s secret battle against a horrific enemy.

Across America, a mysterious pathogen transforms ordinary people into raging killers, psychopaths driven by a terrifying, alien agenda. The human race fights back, yet after every battle the disease responds, adapts, using sophisticated strategies and brilliant ruses to fool its pursuers. The only possible explanation: the epidemic is driven not by evolution but by some malevolent intelligence.

Standing against this unimaginable threat is a small group, assembled under the strictest secrecy. Their best weapon is hulking former football star Perry Dawsey, left psychologically shattered by his own struggles with this terrible enemy, who possesses an unexplainable ability to locate the disease’s hosts. Violent and unpredictable, Perry is both the nation’s best hope and a terrifying liability. Hardened CIA veteran Dew Phillips must somehow forge a connection with him if they’re going to stand a chance against this maddeningly adaptable opponent. Alongside them is Margaret Montoya, a brilliant epidemiologist who fights for a cure even as she reels under the weight of endless horrors.

These three and their team have kept humanity in the game, but that’s not good enough anymore, not when the disease turns contagious, triggering a fast countdown to Armageddon. Meanwhile, other enemies join the battle, and a new threat — one that comes from a most unexpected source — may ultimately prove the most dangerous of all.

Catapulting the reader into a world where humanity’s life span is measured in hours and the president’s finger hovers over the nuclear button, rising star Scott Sigler takes us on a breathtaking, hyper-adrenalized ride filled with terror and jaw-dropping action. Contagious is a truly grand work of suspense, science, and horror from a new master.

Review

A terrific read (Sun)

Scott Sigler takes us on a breathtaking, hyper-adrenalized ride filled with terror and jaw-dropping action . . . epic and exhilarating (Fantasy Book Critic)

Gripping, pacy and often stomach-churningly violent...Sigler seems to have star potential (Independent on INFECTED)

Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk...a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense (James Rollins on INFECTED)

Sigler is masterful at grabbing the reader by the throat and refusing to let go...INFECTED is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror. (Lincoln Child on INFECTED)

Why then choose INFECTED over the latest cinematic thrillers? Because it packs more thrills and ingenious ideas into its 339 pages than Hollywood has managed in 100 years...a genetic splice of The Last Boy Scout, Body Snatchers and Richard Matheson's Shrinking Man (SFX on INFECTED) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description

Stephen King's CELL meets Ridley Scott's Alien and crossed with 28 Days Later.

4.0 out of 5 stars Different...in a good way 18 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
I liked this. Alien invasion...funny little purple triangles on the skin, sub-visual, dermal infection, an alien craft miles above the earth trying to populate our planet. Good originality - blending genres effectively. Enough science to keep you believing, story line that has a reasonable pace. I would buy another of Sigler's books based upon this, my first exposure - enough said?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 18 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was my first experience of Sigler and despite the fact that I'd not yet read Infected, that didn't diminish my enjoyment one bit. The relationship that develops between Perry Dawsey and Dew Phillips alone is worth the money and an exceptional storyline, which romps along at a breakneck pace, will leave you craving more. Join the junkies!

5.0 out of 5 stars A roller coaster ride 14 Jan 2012
By Sid
Format:Paperback
I finished Contagious much faster than I anticipated because it was quite simply brilliant. The action and suspense were non-stop and I grew to really care about the characters. The book throws up some interesting "What if?" questions as well. I think fans of Justin Cronin's "The Passage" would enjoy this. Incidentally, I didn't read "Infected" beforehand but it didn't affect my enjoyment of this book, and there was no confusion because Sigler doesn't assume the reader has read the prequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic 21 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
This sequel, to the first in Scott Siglers upcoming trilogy (Infected, Contagious, Pandemic), is easily the most epic yet. What amazes me most about the book, I think, is how Sigler manages to make Perry Dawsey, a violent ex football player struggling with his violent family history, a character that readers can care about even through his haze of flaws. The writing is excellent, the science solid, the story brilliant and the violent alien race that threatens much more then just Perry, is as chilling, calculating and merciless as ever. what more could you want? I read it through and am eagerly awaiting the sequel.
