Biography

Brutally intense, unrelenting and outright savage are just a few ways the metal community will describe the new offering from Montreal’s hottest export DESPISED ICON as their new full-length effort, Day of Mourning, is a true lesson in violence. The material contained on this disc should come bearing a caution label stating “Is known to evoke extreme erratic and violent tendencies ... Read more in Amazon's Despised Icon Store

5.0 out of 5 stars really awesome and unique 20 April 2013

Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
i bought this album because i am a great fan of this band, if you are into deathcore, you just can not dislike this band, because they were one of those bands that formed the base of the genre
this album features the original line-up with a female vocalist, and damn, is she brutal
it's fast, brutal, technical, fast, sometimes even funny, and did i mention fast?
if you're into deathcore, and you want to listen to the kind of stuff that started it all, i'd really recommend this, as despised icon was considered one of the best deathcore bands ever, according to many
it also features 2 bonus tracks, wich are re-recordings of 2 songs on the album, with the new line up

5.0 out of 5 stars Definately will please the toughest ears 9 Aug 2007
By Jeremy Brackeen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I first got into Despised Icon when I heard "Silver Plated Advocate" on a bonus compilation cd. Then I quickly went out and bought their 2005 effort "The Healing Process" and it just blew me away. Afterwards I picked up their very first album "Consumed by Your Poison" which was originally released on Galy Records in 2003 I believe, and it would be re-released by Century Media (awesome record label BTW) last year in 2006.

This album is just let me tell you absolutely insane. Everything about CBYP will definately please even the toughest ears on a human being, even though I like THP better, but this album is still a treat. The two vocalists at that time Marie-Helene Landry and Steve Marois both use such different styles including cookie monster death growls, deep inhaling whistling like sounds, hardcore shouts, etc. They both grab the listener right by the throat and tear it in half. The drumming by Alexandre Erian (who played drums at the time, and would later replace Landry on vocals) is just flat out vicious and awesome. The guitar riffs are just massive and very technical too, and there's also some heavy bass work too.

Every song on here is worth listening to including "Compelled to Copulate", "Poissonnariat", "Grade A-One", "Absolu", "Fasionable", and "Interfere in Your Days". We also have a couple of 2006 re-recorded versions of "Poissonnariat" and "Compelled to Copulate" featuring the band's two current vocalists Steve Marois and Alexandre Erian as well.

Overall, this will definately please any fan of death metal, hardcore, grindcore, or just extreme heavy music in general. If you're a fan of Despised Icon, then by all means go for this album. Also be sure to check out their brand new album "The Ills of Modern Man as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Debut 5 Feb 2007
By Bill Lumbergh - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
In 2002, a Canadian band that fused together technical death metal and hardcore released their debut album "Consumed By Your Poison". However, it was only released in Canada via Galy Records. Four years later, after the enjoyment of DI's 2005 sophomore album, "The Healing Process", Century Media gives a treat across the world with the re-release of this great album.

This album has a different vocalist, and the vocal style may be kind of weird at first, but it will grow on you. The musical structure is similar to the band's country natives Gorguts and Cryptopsy, using the technical structure for their songs. With addicting songs like "Compel to Copulate", "Grade A-One" and "Poissonnariat", it's sure to please the ears.

Also, we have 2 re-recorded versions of "Compel to Copulate" and "Poisonnariat", which feature the band's current vocalist. Personally, I enjoy the first versions better, but you can see once you listen to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked from the start 1 April 2007
By System - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This album is a death metal/death core must have. from the intense opening riff of Compelled To Copulate you will be hooked. The band uses pig squeals like it is their job. the vocals are one of the best parts of the album however.
