Product Description

Review

"An excellent value text for undergraduates and postgraduates on built environment courses.... It is refreshing to read such a comprehensively up–dated book in this field which covers a wide spectrum of related areas with clear and across the board examples throughout." (Building Engineer, April 2009)

"Bringing the book once again favourably up to date, risk and hazard management, management of the supply chain, waste and H&S management have been introduced.... With its appealing practical delivery of appropriate topics and specific subject content this new edition should continue to be attractive to students and graduates." (McCaffer, April 2009)

Product Description

This book offers a clear explanation of the principles and practice of construction planning, programming and control during the preparation and construction stages of a project. The book is written in the context of current procurement and contractual arrangements and JCT2005, NEC3 and ICE7 contracts are covered. The statutory framework within which construction projects must be managed is explained and the topic of construction hazard and risk is covered in detail. A variety of programming techniques are explained and the development of safe construction sequences and methods is particularly emphasised. The control of time, money and resources are considered in a risk management context and a complete chapter is devoted to cash flow.

The third edition has been extensively updated and extended to include new materials on:

∗ Hazard identification

∗ Risk assessment

∗ Health and safety management

∗ CDM 2007

∗ Construction sequences and method statements

∗ Delay analysis

∗ Waste management and Site Waste Management Plans

The final three chapters are devoted to individual case studies which have been selected to illustrate the practical application of the principles explained in the book and to provide examples of current procedures adopted by major contractors. The content is designed to provide a clear and comprehensive text for undergraduates on construction management, surveying and civil engineering degree courses.

Superb, Buy it. 24 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
I required a book which would have given me a thorough understanding of construction management and administration and subsequently allowed me to successfully complete my HND.
Being a second year student I've already experienced various books for the different subjects and so far can say nearly all the books I've bought none have disappointed, however, that's due to the various hours spent researching before buying and comments from previous readers go a long way in helping to make an informed choice.
This book is packed with information (such as the real life case studies of projects) and helped me with completing most of the modules with distinction. It is relevantly helpful to subjects such as Management Principles, Health and Safety and a bible for the Group Project.
As I've stated before I used this book for my HND, however, now it will be used for my top-up degree. All I can say is go buy this you won't be disappointed, as I only know too well how hard it is to find the right book with the relevant material.
