The management of construction developments is a cross platform discipline in an industry that is very much has an international purview, there is shown to be a clear need for the industry to have a codified response to the responsibilities and necessities for enhancements in safety, in product worth and budget control, and in the prevention of contractual disagreements. The precepts and principles, which were set, were culmination of a collection of rudimentary resources for emergent building management skills for use in a pan-European frame work. At the heart of this was the contractor’s view point on of the construction segment of the project. There is a clear prioritisation in the need for expertise in the field of construction management so as to professionally be competent.

To this end and with the continued development of construction on an international environment this text is intended reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students across Europe, this title then is reasonably well laid out, however, there is a clear absence of colour for the visuals which is let down, as I believe that this better helps to disseminate the information at hand. This text delivers in terms of being an introduction to the subject for its target audience.

There is a great deal to like about this book, it's got a great deal to tell in a short work and would form a good primer for further study, It's clearly laid out with a great deal of visualisation and diagram based areas which really help the reader. I've spent around quarter of a century in project delivery (from construction to IT) and I think this would have been a useful place to start at the beginning of my career. I agree with the other reviewer that the use of colour seems unreasonably restricted and that health and safety should have been given more prominence. The management of Health and Safety and avoidance of the lost time accident is a crucial part of every area of management in capital projects. A good work, a good place to start but not much beyond a primer.

As an experienced project manager who has recently been made redundant in a similar field I wanted to explore if my skills could be used in a more general construction arena than I have worked in previously. I found this book extremely interesting, and fairly easy to understand as someone with a basis in the field. The book gives a good foundation, although there are a lot you are only going to pick up on the job. To be honest I'm not sure of the need for the book, I doubt it would teach much that is new to those working in the role, however for university students it could be very helpful.

This book covers all aspects of construction management, providing the reader with a good overview. Personally I found it hard to dip in and out of, rather a text where you needed to sit down and read a whole section at a time. This may be because of the nature of the subject but I put this more down to the absence of colour and layout of the book. Spending a bit more time in preparing the layout of chapters and pages, helping the reader to quickly pick out the most important information, diagrams etc would have made a big difference to my experience in using this book.

I wanted in particular to know about alternative forms of contract and pricing, and this book provided a pretty thorough coverage of those topics, albeit not in the chapter I was expecting. Still, it was there and very useful.

The authors have obviously made an effort to provide broad coverage and check for research on the topics covered.

The writing style is fine. It's not entertaining, but it is clear enough and not hard to read.
