Jennifer Laing has managed to create yet another really helpful and useful bear making manual, this time incorporating other adorable creatures and dolls too. I was put off buying this book for a month or two (or three actually) by other readers who had described it as 'too complex and fiddley'. However, I have to say that from the moment of opening the pages and leafing through to absorb the new suggestions and ideas that I was totally enthralled by the new energy and ideas that Jennifer has yet again come up with.
I had reached a stage in my bear making where I thought I could take it no further and was stumped. After just spending a couple of days reading through Jennifer's suggestions and ideas I have new ideas and creations in mind again. The book is not intended as a set 'recipe and method' book but as a catalyst to get your own 'creative juices flowing'. There are a number of different methods described which I have seen on other makers/artists bears, for example how to create those lovely sculpted feet or colouring fabrics - a lot of bear making books have been written which touch the surface of these artists' methods but none that go into such helpful detail.
I would highly recommend this book for any budding bear maker but especially for those who have mastered making a standard bear and are ready to move onto something a bit more adventurous.

This is a great book for a maker with some previous knowledge. It would probably be too complex for a beginner, but then again it never sells itself as a novices book. I found the patterns a delight and, even though I have not used them as they stand, they were a great trigger for my imagination.
