Product Description

Product Description

The success of any interview or questionnaire depends upon good question design, yet most of the available literature has been devoted to interview techniques, rather than question formulation. This practical book provides a coherent, theoretical basis for the construction of valid and reliable questions for interviews and questionnaires. The theoretical framework used in the book provides a set of principles that, when followed, will increase the validity and reliability of verbal data collected for social research. Dr Foddy outlines the problems which can arise when framing questions with clarity and commonsense. He has written a wide ranging, useful book for survey practitioners working in the social sciences.

Thorough piece of research, written for an academic audience, looking at the process of questionnaire / interview design. Essential reading for researchers, but of use to anyone working in professions where interviewing is an importantpart of the job.

Foddy FTW! 10 Nov 2009
By J. Kingery - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
William Foddy and Earl Babbie (SURVEY RESEARCH METHODS) tell you all you need to know about conducting successful social research with surveys and questionnaires. Foddy's prose is very accessible, and he uses great examples throughout the text. I only wish there was a more recent edition! (Same argument for Babbie's text.) Nearly all Foddy's guidelines still hold up fifteen years after the publication of the 1993 text, but I really wish a more recent edition would come out in light of the technology boom; the book has no information about Web-based surveys, though there are some great articles available out there.

Constructing Questions for Interviews and Questionnaires 19 Nov 2002
By Julia Bailey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is very clearly written, and gives examples all the way through about the ways in which design of questions will influence the responses to them. Foddy gives a multitude of tips, backed up by research about questionnaire design, about how to standardise questions and get responses to the questions you intended to ask.

Highly recommended
