Terrific 31 May 2011
By Parka HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
Length: 1:20 Mins
This is terrific movie companion for the film Green Lantern. Author Ozzy Inguanzo, Green Lantern's researcher and asset manager, has done a great job compiling the book. It's a 208-page hardcover with good paper, binding and has good layout.

The book's not spoiler free, it's all access.

The commentary is basically a production design diary that looks at the creation of the film from start to end. It's a very interesting read and insightful as almost everything shown on screen are discussed as to why they were created that way.

Even though it's a movie companion and not a true art book, it's still packed with concept art. There are creature and costume designs, sketches, storyboards, and behind-the-scenes photos. Compared to other comic-to-movie film companions, this one is really substantial.

The photos are great. You get to see a lot of stuff on the set, like the Ferris Aircraft compound, the jet Hal Jordan was flying, various rings and lantern mock-ups, prosthetic scale model of Abin Sur, sculpted maquettes of Hector's head, etc. There are not a lot of film stills and the ones included are well selected.

The concept illustrations and visuals are quality work and are beautiful. There are designs for Abin Sur's ship, the Green Lantern suit (3D renders included), beautiful background art of Planet Oa, detailed storyboards and key frame illustrations.

The character designs are fantastic. The concepts for other Green Lanterns are very cool, sometimes weird, but fun to look at. A few are rendered at such high resolution you can almost feel the textures you're seeing - I'm talking about insect macro photography type of details.

This is a highly recommended movie companion.

Worthy addition to the "Art of..." library 3 Jun 2011
By Stop Motion Maniac - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I'm loving this book. Universe (division of Rizzoli) and Ozzy Inguanzo (gotta love that name) have done a terrific job with this publication. My personal preference is a hardback book with roughly these dimensions. I can read it in bed, on the couch etc, which is not as easy with the current Chronicle/Insight/Titan Art of... publications (I like them nonetheless though). The dust cover is beautiful with a nice spot varnish on the "Green Lantern" lettering. The pages are nice heavy paper stock and I detect no pixelation or otherwise inferior printing issues. The book is roughly 200 pages.

The book is divided into 3 parts. My favorite section is "Planet Oa" because I am very interested in sci fi/fantasy environments/architecture etc. This section for me was a real treat and feel that they did an awesome job of laying it out. I feel that there is a good balance of text, image, storyboards, concept art, film stills and production photos. If you are a collector of the Art of... titles or superhero comic to screen, I think you are going to be thoroughly happy with this effort.

Highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning! 1 Jun 2011

The pictures in this book are incredible! My favorites are the conceptual renderings for the many members of the Green Lantern Corps. It'll be interesting to see what the characters look like on a 3D screen and compare it to the version on the page. If you're a Green Lantern fan, or want to become one, this is the book for you! Lots and lots of background info on the character, the universe it protects, as well as the moviemakers' journey to finally take this wonderful character to the big screen. Highly recommended!
