Ok, this is an oddball album for me. It's 1986, Alice decides rightly to ditch the new wave sound that he had established in the early 80's. So what sound does Alice go for? Well, this album sounds like any other cheezy 80's stadium metal band. Not necessarily heavy, but loads of wailing guitar solos, and dodgy lyrics. I do like many of the songs on the album, eg 'Life and death of the party', 'Teenage Frankenstein'. Although, i find the production a little quiet at times, which affects the punch of the album. Maybe if they had played more heavy riffs and less guitar gymnastic solos it could have worked better. A good effort, even if you get the impression that Alice is jumping on the bandwagon.

He's Back! 11 Jan 2001

After some time out, the man behind the mask returned with this classic piece of 80's rock-pop. The great guitar work mixed in with some in your face synthesisor sounds combine to make this a happy sounding, but kick ass album. There are several highlights, but my personal favourite is He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask) which was the theme tune to Friday the 13th pt6, but could also be about Alice himself!

I would assume you are here because you're an Alice Cooper fan, and you've probably heard Man Behind The Mask or you are wishing to complete your collection of 25-ish Cooper studio albums. Well, this is a very curious album. It's full of glam metal-type hits heavily influenced by the trends of the time (sadly, Alice has been a trend chaser rather than setter since Flush The Fashion). It is one hell of a guilty pleasure album. This reviewer personally finds his early 80s so-called 'wilderness albums' far more beguiling and creative than these late 80s albums that put his name back on the map so to speak, and the dire production nigh-on sinks it. Yet there is much to enjoy: the rousing Teenage Frankenstein, the irreverent humour of Thrill My Gorilla, and the only song I consider to be close to an actual Cooper song on the album, Simple Disobedience. Sadly, this is the album's main problem- none of it sounds much like Alice. It's an 80s digest Alice, buffered and polished into a pop-rock package. Thankfully, things were looking up post-Constrictor.
