Product Description

Synopsis

Did you think the X-Files is fiction? If so, you must be one of those deluded fools who think Elvis is dead, and believe that the US actually went to the moon, and don't know that the ruling elites did a deal with the extra-terrestrials after the Roswell crash in 1947...Boy, it really is getting strange out there. At one time, you could blame the world's troubles on the Masons or the Illuminati, or the Jews, or One Worlders, or the Great Communist Conspiracy. Now, in addition to the usual suspects, we also have the alien-US elite conspiracy, or the alien shape-shifting reptile conspiracy to worry about - and there are books to prove it as well! Conspiracy theories - they are all in here - but not just lined up to be ridiculed and dismissed. Ok, there is some of that, but the author also tries to sort out the handful of wheat from the choking clouds of intellectual chaff. For, among the nonsensical Conspiracy Theory rubbish currently proliferating on the Internet, there are important nuggets of real research about real conspiracies waiting to be mined. This book has done the mining for you.

Fully sourced and referenced, this is both a serious examination of Conspiracy Theories and the Conspiracy Theory phenomenon, and a guide to further explorations of the subject.

Robin Ramsay is the editor and publisher of the journal Lobster. He is co-author of Smear! Wilson and the Secret State! and the author of Prawn Cocktail Party.

Conspiracy Theories will especially interest those who have enjoyed Louis Theroux or Jon Ronson's book Them: Adventures With Extremists.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great starting point 29 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Ramsay's book is an essential primer for those who are wary about going near so-called 'conspiracy theories'. Those expecting a zany account of UFO's and JFK theories would be surprised to find an informative text on the nature of conspiracy theories and why they should be taken seriously as part of the political landscape.

Ramsay doesn't waste his time on the 'zany' side of conspiracy theories, instead he looks at those that should be worthy for further investigation.

This slim volume is probably one of the most informative pocket books produced and should be a serious purchase for anyone interested in politics.

2.0 out of 5 stars Conspiracy theories 31 July 2009
Format:Hardcover
Didnt find this book any good at all, spends hardly anytime detailing the conspiracy theories pictured on the cover and waffles on about what conspiracy theories are etc.
If your into conspiracy theories and not very intellectual(like me)and just want to read about the various incidents and the theories involved this book is not for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars dissapointing 6 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
was disappointed that this book goes into no great detail about the conspiracy theories pictured on the cover. this book talks about conspiracy theories in general, how times have changed and how conspiracy theories have become part of popular culture. was expecting more details on well known conspiracies, but there is very little of this.
