Gorguts are one of the few death metal bands that are willing to progress and impliment experimental tweaks to they're sound. On they're debut album, it's about superb death metal execution and brutal metal for these french canadian maniacs. "Considered Dead" is a very very technically sound and proficient album, and it is also a very well written one too. For me, this album is at the center of everything that is great about old school death metal:- The rusty and stripped down production only helps to ramp up the intensity of it all.

There's quite bit of variety with riffage, solid lines and rhythms, blastbeats, guitar harmonics, and deathly atmospherics. It all adds up to being a sophisticated and destructive effort for the band. Showing they're raw talent, for brutality of this earliest effort the band went on to release another four albums to which all of them are classics. Despite suffering many line up changes in this band's musical career, they have done well to keep it all going. "Gorguts" are specifically one of the most consistent and greatest death metal bands out there.

Key tracks must be:- "Stiff & Cold, The title track, and Drifting Anatomy"; and so I can recommend 'Considered Dead', this band, and all five of they're current studio albums in the highest of regards.,

This is a classic. For those of you who are self-congratulatory connoisseurs of death metal, Gorguts was breaking new ground before you saw hammered smashed face on Ace Ventura for the first time. These guys are the best at what they do. Obscura can go to hell - Considered Dead and Erosion of Sanity are two albums with a unique sound and skull-smashing musicianship.

look, don't get me wrong. if I'd still own this album I wouldn't sell it again. I'd give it another half star if I could. I got myself this after hearing suffocation (effigy of the forgotten - which I loved) and immolation (that album with the black & white angels fighting - which I sold), and finding the song disincarnated on a Rock Hard sampler. I loved the classical hymn element in that song, which I however missed on the album (can't remember whether the song was on the album or not). Gorguts is belgian classical death metal - because anyone could listen to this album for 30 seconds and say "hmm..this is death metal", however not much more than that. Slightly better than mediocre death metal, despite Morrisound-sounding-sound. Not as good as Suffocation or Obituary, or even Cavalera Brother's Arise by far though. In my opinion anyway. but still a classic.
