4.0 out of 5 stars A guide for the Ages, 13 Feb 2001
By Joel Peck - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Conservation of Photographs (Kodak Publication) (Paperback)
In this book by the Eastman Kodak company, there is hands on showing and telling of how to restore old prints, along with other useful topics such as negative reproduction. The techincal terms are aimed at the experanced photographer and printer and may be a little hard for the average person to follow. If you have old prints that are faded, and negatives that are old and spotted, this book will help you step by step to restoring them back to good condition. In "Conservation of Photographs", it also explains the storage and preservation of your prints so they will last a few life times. This book is a must have for the person who has ever wanted to restore antique photos and has the knowledge of the darkroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, 5 Feb 2010

This is the best single source of information I've found for restoring/preserving old photographic products. The Kodak people really know their stuff.

If you are inexperienced with darkroom chemical processing, this book may feel like you are diving into the deep end of the pool. Not insurmountable though and there is still a wealth of information and usefulness if you don't intend to get your hands wet. Some of the Kodak products they recommend are no longer in production, put you can likely find usable alternatives with just a little research. e.g. some cleaning chemicals are no longer legally available; some discontinued Kodak products are still made by other manufacturers. The website for "Photographers' Formulary" is one good source. Good luck.
