I was already a huge fan of 10CC when I saw Godley & Creme perform 'It's Five O'Clock In The Morning' on Top of the Pops. I decided to save my pocket money and buy 'Consequences' in its triple cassette format, a decision I have never regretted.
The eerie atmospherics of Disc One portrayed a world in constant flux, a world that had the power to destroy mankind. This was the ideological and musical backdrop to the Peter Cook 'play' on discs 2 & 3. The play was concerned with the finer details of a messy divorce, and the thoughts of Mr Blint, the strange occupant of the flat below the solicitor's office. Interspersed
are some of the most lyrical and imaginative songs ever written, my favourites being 'It's Cool Cool Cool in the Morning' and 'Lost Weekend' (Kevin Godley's superb duet with the inimitable Sarah Vaughan).
If you only buy one Godley & Creme CD this is it, although I would thoroughly recommend anything by this under-rated duo.
