Consensual Infidelity

I'm not usually given to writing reviews, but thought this book was excellent. It's very well written in a lovely, gentle and very thought provoking style. I couldn't put it down until I'd read it the whole way through! Almost in one sitting! It's enjoyable on so many levels, it made me smile, sometimes I laughed out loud, and sometimes I groaned - in sympathy - with the participant's feelings, some parts also made me feel a little sad - in empathy of the feelings they expressed - and then happy as things worked out. Anyone expecting something erotic, yes there are some parts, but it's not written to titillate, the telling of what happened serves its purpose extremely well, it's not, in any way, an excuse to write an erotic account of what happened.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been, wants to be, or still is, in `the lifestyle'
Although the book answered a lot of questions, I found I had many more questions to ask. ... Oh to meet the author!

I thought this story, if true, illustrated a very unstable couple, full of self satisfaction and fantasy driven. Nothing wrong with the
latter perhaps, but, really not very interesting or even titillating.

A fairly inane story but at least there is a warning to anyone contemplating going down the same route. Although based in America the same would apply in UK.

Thanks For Sharing 2 Jan 2013
By lvcplngerm - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
We are a "lightly experienced" couple in the lifestyle and have been "experimenting" for about 7 years. As we read this book, we couldn't help but laugh and think how similar our journey was to Kaysee's. From the intimidating pillow talks and the butterflies of the first meeting to the individual emotions everyone felt throughout their experience, we found the feelings she shared to be almost identical to ours. In fact, through our discussions with other couples, I believe that this is true of most "normal" couples taking a dip into the lifestyle.

This is not a graphic "sex story." This is a very honest story about relationships and self-discovery. That isn't saying the book is not HOT! As Kaysee says (and I paraphrase), sometimes the best part is the anticipation leading up to that first kiss. However, if you are looking for nonstop graphic depictions and details, this probably won't do the trick for you.

This book is really more for couples or the curious individual...maybe those curious individuals who are interested, but do not know how to discuss their feelings with their partner. Honestly, our initial conversations were almost identical to those described..."Have you ever thought about...?" (SILENCE...Oh crap, did I go to far?) And now, although the lifestyle is not a central part of our lives at all, our communication is stronger than ever and marriage solid as a rock (24 years).

A fascinating and down-to-earth look at a subject all too easily dismissed as mere fantasy 11 July 2012
By Bending the Bookshelf - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
What immediately sets Kasyee's story apart from the fictionalized fantasies that dominate the shelves is the way in which it's told. Seeing their marriage open up through the eyes of the wife, as opposed to the husband, grounds the story and makes it more accessible to the reader. It's an honest and emotional tale, with insights both startling and amusing, that you just can't imagine coming from any woman's husband.

Here we get to experience the full range of experiences and emotions, right from the initial shock and insecurity, through the first giddy infatuation, the blissful consummation of a fantasy, and the emotional and intellectual difficulties in dealing with the consequences of such a drastic change in a relationship. What makes it so accessible (and, ironically, so shocking) is the fact that Kasyee and Justin appear to be your ordinary, average, everyday couple. There's no hint of kinks or infidelities, and no outward signs that either might be interested in opening up their marriage.

In case you think this is just a story about sex, it's so very much not. This is a story about relationships, plain and simple. It's a story about friends, lovers, and the intermingling of the two. Kasyee and her husband aren't looking for a nameless one-night stand or an anonymous thrill to get it out of their system. Once they've made up their mind and become committed to the experience, they look for something that any reader can sympathize with - an expansion of their relationship, and an enhancement to their love.

Things go so well for the couple that the ending, when it does come, is a bit of a letdown. Not because it's tacky or cliched or unbelievable, but because it's entirely too believable. Reality and fantasy don't always mesh, and consequences have to be dealt with, no matter how inconvenient they may be. All-in-all, however, it seems to have been a good experience for them, and one that added something to their lives - which is a wonderful message to take away from such a taboo subject.

Provacative 27 Jun 2012

For both the body and mind. This was an excellent read on a subject many of us wonder about . The author provides a look at the reality behind the fantasy. As a male I appreciated that the story was told from a woman's perspective, and all that encompasses.
Her prose was evocative, from the giddy flirations to the blossoming of her sensuality.
It truly was a hard book to put down; I had to force myself to ration my reading time to prolong the enjoyment. Without giving away the plot I'd have to say the ending was happy, sad, and most of all, believable. Perhaps the author will revisit the subject at a later stage in her life, i.e. empty nest, when life may have fewer complications. Share this book with someone you love; it's bound to be a conversation starter. Who knows what might follow?

Well-written, but not erotic, probably not true 23 July 2013

I was really on the fence about giving this ebook a 3-star or 4-star review. I ultimately decided to go with 4-stars because it's not entirely the author's fault her book did not meet my expectations, and it is well-written. I bought this on the recommendation of a friend and because I thought it was erotica, based on the things others who bought this also bought. But it is not erotica. If you're looking for a hot, graphic tale of a couple exploring swinging, this is not it. It gets right up to the point where it could be very hot, and then it veers away. And if you're looking for a true story I doubt this is true. It just doesn't ring true. Kaysee tries to present herself as this sexual neophyte who wouldn't even use a sex toy, but in various flashbacks she completely contradicts this version of herself.

However, this ebook is well-written, and while overall it rings false as a true story, many of the emotions the characters feel seem very real. Kaysee knows how to create vivid, real characters and moves the story along at a good clip. Even after I found it this wasn't what I expected, I still felt compelled to read to the end (though I started skimming the many flashbacks) and find out what happens to this couple. I think the choice this couple makes about the Lifestyle in the end is realistic, which is a nice change of pace. If you're looking for a compelling drama and want to learn a little about the Lifestyle, this isn't a bad place to start.

Exploring a Forbidden Fantasy Brings Self-Awareness 3 Oct 2012
By Donna G. Storey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Threesomes, partner swapping, sizzling sex with strangers, these are common scenarios in erotic fiction, where the climax is always explosively satisfying to all parties involved. But have you ever wondered what it would really be like to seek sexual adventure beyond the confines of monogamy with your spouse by your side? Kaysee Smart's memoir, Consensual Infidelity, is an entertaining, often humorous, and compellingly honest account of one couple's efforts to make their sexual fantasies come true.

Although Kaysee and her husband Justin are indeed as conventional as the title promises, their story makes for a surprisingly suspenseful page-turner. It's common wisdom that we all lie about sex, even to ourselves, but the narrator's self-insight and down-to-earth charm creates immediate sympathy and trust. The book does offer hot scenes that draw you in to the erotic experience--being groomed by your husband for another man's pleasure, making love to a new partner after ten years of marriage, playing "the girl" in the classic fantasy threesome with a married couple. Yet equally engaging are the flashbacks to Kaysee's sexual past and the deeper intimacy that develops between the couple as result of the emotional risks they take together.

The explicit erotic encounters are perfectly pitched, both sexy and soulful, but I also appreciated that the anticipation, online courtship, and discussions Justin and Kaysee have about their desires provide a kind of emotional foreplay that can be as good as the main event. Swingers emphasize that open communication is essential, yet even for those who feel secure in their primary relationship, it's obviously a continuing process. The way each partner in the group deals with that challenge makes for the most memorable scenes of the memoir all the way to the ending.

Consensual Infidelity is above all a journey of sexual self-awareness--and isn't that what we're really seeking from good erotic writing? Whether or not you're considering opening up your relationship, the book raises fascinating questions about true intimacy, the power of sexual fantasy and the value of communicating openly about sex that will resonate with every reader.
