Book Description

The seven lectures presented here were delivered in New York for the purpose of presenting the testimony of science as to the relation of matter and of consciousness; to enable the hearers to observe the identical manifestation of these relations and of certain basic laws in successively higher states of being, and thus to bring to them a realization of the universality of the evolutionary process and its actuality; and to deal somewhat with the nature of the expanded states of consciousness and the enlarged life toward which all mankind is traveling. They thus were intended to serve as an introduction to the more detailed study and application of the laws of life and human enfoldment generally included in the term of "occultism."

Review

An extract from the Tibetan teacher, written in 1934 briefly explains the intent of these teachings: The books that I have written are sent out with no claim for their acceptance. They may, or may not, be correct, true and useful. It is for you to ascertain their truth by right practice and by the exercise of the intuition. Neither I nor A.A.B. is the least interested in having them acclaimed as inspired writing, or in having anyone speak of them (with bated breath) as being the work of one of the masters. If they present truth in such a way that it follows sequentially upon that already offered in the world teachings, if the information given raises the aspiration and the will to serve from the plane of the emotions to that of the mind (the plane whereon the Masters can be found) then they will have served their purpose. If the teaching conveyed calls forth a response from the illumined mind of the worker in the world, and brings a flashing forth of the intuition, then let that teaching be accepted. But not otherwise. If the statements meet with eventual corroboration, or are deemed true under the test of the Law of Correspondences, then that is well and good. But should this not be so, let not the student accept what is said. --A Statement from the Tibetan

More About the Author

Alice Bailey (1880-1949). In 1919 whilst living in the Krotona Theosophical Institute, Hollywood she was contacted by the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul who requested her help in writing a series of books.
He saw his work as teaching and spreading the knowledge of the Ageless Wisdom and qualifies this. "I am one who has wrestled and fought his way into a greater measure of light and I must therefore act as a transmitter of the light, no matter what the cost."
This he did through his 30 year collaboration with Alice Bailey resulting in the writing of twenty books of esoteric philosophy. A further four books were written by AAB and several compilations of the work have also been published.
The Tibetan prefaced the books "It is for you to ascertain their truth by right practice and the exercise of the intuition.... If the teaching conveyed calls forth a response from the illumined mind of the worker in the world, and brings a flashing forth of his intuition, then let the teaching be accepted. But not otherwise,"

For those interested in the Occult, this book is not a must but a good read. With it's non-jargon approach, Alice Bailey has added an essential book for those looking for an easy way into what Occultism is all about. True, she doesn't elucidate the deep inner teachings, how could she? But she does give the lay-man a starting point that is easy to understand, leaving ones mind enabled to meditate upon subjects perhaps not before thought of.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Teacher 16 Dec. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book, compiled back in the 1920's, highlights the interconnectedness of all life - from the atom (if not 'below') to the higher and highest realms of life eternal. Spirit evolution is from the mineral upwards, an eternal progression, so far to the human for us, but never-ending. The soul progressing through form, group to individual (the human level) and onwards.

A very interesting look at systems and the evolution of consciousness. Written in a philosophical essay style back in 1934 it is still relevant today.
