Book Description

As headstrong as she is beautiful, Lady Cassandra Vernham defied convention when she refused to marry the man who had compromised her. Now, estranged from her family, Cassandra struggles to make ends meet. A recent auction of her jewels has brought her a modicum of relief, but one of the most valuable lots was never paid for by the highest bidder: handsome, rakish Viscount Ambury. Cassandra needs that money badly, and not to buy a new hat.

Ambury has only to look at Cassandra to begin imagining her in his bed… He has not settled that outstanding debt for a reason. He suspects that the expensive baubles were stolen, perhaps even by Cassandra herself. Erotic fantasies about her notwithstanding, the vixen is not to be trusted, for she has already destroyed his good friend—the man she refused to marry who later lost his life in a duel, which Ambury suspects was fought over Cassandra. But nothing is as it seems…

As the seductive lord and the scandalous beauty are drawn together, the passion that flares between them will illuminate shocking secrets that will change both their lives forever…

5.0 out of 5 stars So Enjoyable 1 Oct. 2014

I enjoyed this book in so many ways. The story contains some mysteries as the romance between Cassandra and Yates develops. Clues to these helped me guess all but one which came as a surprise. The growing love, tenderness and sexual hunger the couple share is well written with wit, humour and directness. The story is set against a wider background of friends and past events that link together the hero and heroine in an initial context of misunderstanding and mistrust. Happily this is overcome and they have their happy ending. A really enjoyable romance on September several levels. I have already bought more books by this author and will be buying more I'm sure. I can recommend this book to those who enjoy Regency romances, a good story and wit and humour in their writing.

Independent, flirtatious Cassandra has a tarnished image within the ton, even more so with Ambury, his friends Southwaite (The Surrender of Miss Fairborne) and Kendal, as she is linked with the death of their friend Lakewood from fighting a duel over her.

To raise cash for a ticket to America for her and her Aunt, Cassandra has auctioned of a pair of expensive saphire and diamond earrings, this, together with her friend Emma Fairbourne's marriage to Southwaite, draws Cassandra further and further into Ambury's and friends' sphere. Small mysteries are threaded throughout which Ambury's curiousity insists he investigates, running alongside a love affair built up layer upon layer, with a twist at the end I never saw coming. Funny, sexy and good plot.

Some books you just know the ending from the first page and yet you can still enjoy the journey of this entertaining light read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read 30 Nov. 2014

I enjoyed this book very much. Rather than just a race to the end, I found the development of Cassandra and Yates' relationship, and the building of the story itself, enthralling. Ms Hunter was previously an author I enjoyed but had slipped off my radar. I will keep an eye out again.
