Connected: The Shift is part two of a two part series, with Connected: The Call (part one) available on Amazon now.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS

“If you are looking for a well thought out story, from a writer that is showing great early promise, you could do a lot worse than get Connected to this supernatural, spy-thriller. Do take care though… There are atrocities concocted in this book that will leave you bereft of sleep if you dwell on them for too long.” Paul Martin, Self Publisher’s Showcase

“Short chapters take the reader through The Shift’s various times and settings easily, providing a rhythm of dramatic pauses and shifts. The way Medhat keeps control of so many important and vastly different characters is also admirable; without this control, the plot and the style would have quickly fallen apart and the 400-page whole been challenging to navigate through.”
Georgina Parfitt, TowerBabel

ABOUT THE BOOK

After the events of Connected: The Call, many questions remain unanswered. What isn’t Ellie telling? What will be Sam’s retribution? And what is Salim going to do next? Connected: The Shift picks up almost immediately from where The Call left off, plunging Ellie and Sam into a world where nothing is what it seems. Lives will be betrayed, revenge will be delivered and actions will be taken to excess. In the desire for power, only one will remain ‘white of heart’.

The roller-coaster ride that is Sam and Ellie's new reality doesn’t hold back, barrelling ahead at a breakneck speed that they can’t control as they are catapulted into increasingly dangerous and incomprehensible situations.

Now all they have to do is survive the next seventy-two hours. Their only hope is to use all their abilities to overcome the accursed forces that threaten their lives and the world around them.

But will their abilities be enough when they face the darkest force of all…?

The Call ended as Ellie Noor, the innocent party in a world of outlaws, international terrorists and spies, became dangerously caught up in her husband’s mission. Now as we rejoin the cast of Connected for the next installment, Michelle Medhat deepens the readers’ connection with these strange, but disconcertingly recognizable, worlds and offers an exciting read.

The Shift is quick to bring the reader into the fray with a succession of high intensity scenes following Sam and Ellie’s capture. Kidnapped separately and tortured, they are forced to consider their own deaths apart from one another. Medhat opens up this world of violence and inhumanity quickly and effectively. I’ve never written a torture scene, but I imagine it’s tricky to strike a balance between describing every twinge and letting the reader’s imagination do the work. Though Medhat tends definitely towards the former, giving us a blow-by-blow account of each torture technique, Sam and Ellie are well developed enough that we feel for them and are dragged along as they are by the anticipation of each new pain. Difficult to read but difficult to put down, these violent segments are the book’s biggest success in my view.

Again, short chapters take the reader through The Shift’s various times and settings easily, providing a rhythm of dramatic pauses and shifts. The way Medhat keeps control of so many important and vastly different characters is also admirable; without this control, the plot and the style would have quickly fallen apart and the 400-page whole been challenging to navigate through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 11 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved Connected: The Call and this sequel does not disappoint!

Connected: The Shift sets out at break-neck pace does not let up from start to finish, just when you thought you knew what to expect the story expands and brings into play a whole new level that raises the stakes even higher.

I am a huge fan of the mix of genres, the spy thriller and sci-fi elements combine tremendously well and create a world that is both believable and mind blowing.

A highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A totally unexpected twist to this book 22 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not wanting to give anything away, but one moment you are reading a book along the lines of Homeland/terrorists/ spys etc., and the next minute you are reading a sci fi novel. Totally gripping. Some pages I read so quickly I had to go back to make sure I had all the facts! The characters are totally believable and you feel as though you know them personally . Not ready to give this theme up yet - more please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genre-defying 21 May 2014

Remember seeing a Tarantino film for the first time? Or watching that those first episodes of 24? Or looking at a Salvador Dali painting? Reading The Shift is like doing all three at once. Get stuck into it!

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely brilliant love story. 14 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was expecting a spy novel. It is and it isn't.
What starts as a spy novel, quickly turns into a sci fi classic.
I had flash backs to Darth Vader and Luke. Vader trying to turn Luke to the dark side.
The ending is a true love story ending.
I can't wait for the next instalment.
