Book Description

13 Nov 2008
No matter what she tries to do, trouble has a way of finding Brenda. It’s hardly surprising with secrets like hers. When her old adversary Mr Danby starts filling the airwaves with his late night phone in show it can only mean one thing.

But fate has an even bigger surprise in store. Romance is in the air for Brenda and, do what she will, she cannot deny that she and her man were made for each other – literally.

As usual, Brenda and Effie will face up to whatever dangers come their way with fortitude and grace: even if that means journeying to places beyond their wildest dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hell of a good tale... 11 Nov 2008
Format:Hardcover
After Never the Bride and Something Borrowed, it looks like Magrs has finally found the real plot with Conjugal Rites. Not to say the previous two books were not five star stroies in their own right, but with the latest publication, he sinks right into the story, opening up with the return of the slick and smarmy Mr Danby and his strangely subversive radio phone in talk show. Also from the outset Mrs Claus is back in there and up to no good of course along with foolishly doomed lackey Harry the Cat. It's not until the anticipated return of Frank (eagerly by readers; with horrific trepidation by Brenda), to claim his eponymous rites that the plot thickens and quite literally descends into hell. Can hell be any worse than Whitby? Go ask one of Effie's dead aunts. Which one? Well by the end of the book you may know.

A hell of good yarn and one that promises much more for a whole string of sequels/new adventures. Who the hell is Mrs Claus anyway and will we see the return of Mumu Manchu?

GggglllllooooOOOOOooooopppp-ingly good fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars More please! 21 April 2009
By Magpie
Format:Paperback
Finally the third installment in the Brenda and Effie series is available and of course it is worth the wait. We get to learn more about the origins of Brenda and how she came to be were she is now and Effie's past unfolds a little too.

As ever the inhabitants of Whitby and the town itself throw up obstacles, create diversions and confusions; can there be a more colourful town?

If you haven't read the first two books in the series you would be well advised to order them now and get yourself up to speed. Paul Magrs is a wonderful writer and I cannot recommend him highly enough. The book is great, the only problem being that it is read all too soon and we are left waiting for the next installment - hopefully not too long!
