Product Description

Why do you need to read this book?

Because you are at university. Because you are a student. Because you have to write an academic assignment. It’s as simple as that.

Academic writing with its complex rules is hard to master fast. Essay titles can be confusing and you never know what your lecturers expect of you. You are constantly told to be more critical, but nobody bothers to explain what critical writing actually is. And all that tedious referencing! Why does every lecturer demand that you know everything?

In this book, Vlad Mackevic, a First Class graduate, shares his experience acquired whilst studying and working as an academic writing mentor.

This book will help you answer the following questions:

How to create an easy-to-answer essay question for a free topic assignment or a dissertation?

How to be critical? And what does it even mean?

Why do I need to write my introduction at the end?

How to make the research process as efficient as possible?

How to reference?

And many more. Enjoy reading and writing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver 12 Dec 2012

Read this book before an essay submission and I was able to write an essay in record time simply because I knew what I needed to bear in mind to write it. Admittedly the proof is in the pudding, so we'll see what mark I get but thank you abundantly for this little gem of a guide Vlad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best one so far! 6 Jan 2013

I had to pleasure of attending Vlad's seminar his gave at my university (aston) where he got his first class degree and a number of works published as an undergraduate. i have to say that in person he is very approachable, friendly and dedicated to his work. This made me want to read his book even more, especially if he has approached the book in the same way he did in his seminar. Unlike others i have read which are dense, to 'wordy' and waffle, this book is the exact opposite. It is clear, concise and tells you everything you need to know in short sentences that do not not go on forever! he offers his advice as a student, how he got his first, and what he expects as a reader and in his profession of helping others write. Which is what you need when writing, its not just for the academic your writing for! i have the kindle version on my iPhone and it is not a chore to read despite the small screen! Having finished the first draft of both my essays (which is due in, in less then 24 hours) i have re-read his chapter on structure and grammar and going to go over my work again! This is only possible because the book is so easy to read, there is no waffle and gets straight to it! i wish he had one of how to write a dissertation as i am writing mine after the january exam season! i sure it would be very helpful! thanks Vlad Mackevic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read and very helpful 5 Nov 2012
Format:Paperback
I have been lucky enough to attend a lecture from the author of this book and I then went on to read "From Confusion to Conclusion. How to Write a First-Class Essay". The book is very easy to read and rather than being patronising and judgemental, it is like listening to advice from an old friend. As soon as I started reading I didn't put the book down till the end, and have found it extremely helpful as a second year University student. I have applied the theory behind writing an essay to my most recent assignment that I'm working on. After showing it to my lecturer he was very impressed with the level of detail and analyses in my work. I look forward to receiving my grade and would like to thank Vlad for his help that will most definitely help me on my way to finishing University with a 1st class degree.

5.0 out of 5 stars the "must have" of the year 4 Nov 2012
By rita
Format:Paperback
This book is so useful if you are in University or thinking about going to university. The book gives us useful tips on how to get a first on your essays. I am a first year student and I didn't have a clue of how to structure my essays or what teachers expected from my essays. I had a class test a couple of weeks ago and I had a 2.1 only 3% away from a 1st just because of the book. I highly recommend it.

This book is amazing. I was studying Politics and Languages for four years and I had only wished that this book had existed during my first year, it is so informative it gives you all the information that you would be expected to provide in order to get a first for your assignments and essays. Even now I have quite a lot of friends who are at University at the minute and they were very impressed when I showed them this book. I would just like to thank the author. I also have friends who have since finished University and had never quite mastered the concept of
