Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Though Conflict: Desert Storm II runs the risk of seeming too insensitive even for video game players, this sequel is still set in the original 1991 Gulf War. It's a squad-based shooter that follows the testosterone-enriched adventures of soldiers Bradley, Foley, Connors and Jones as they travel 300 km further behind enemy lines beginning with--and couldn't you just guess it--a rescue mission at a downed Black Hawk helicopter within a heavily fortified city.

Of course, replicating dangerously jingoistic American movies is exactly what Conflict: Desert Storm II is all about and there's a ton of new hardware in this sequel to get even the most steadfast pacifist reaching for the Arnie one-liners. You've got new phosphor grenades, a laser designator to call in helicopters and jet planes and, best of all, the chance to jump in a jeep and spray bad guys with heavy machine gun fire.

As well as adding new features Conflict: Desert Storm II also fixes problems with the original game, in particular the often highly erratic frame rate, which is a lot smoother than before. The co-op mode is also back and better than ever, especially as you can now pick any level from the single-player mode to play through at any time. --David Jenkins

5.0 out of 5 stars On me....On me!, 9 Oct 2003
Well I never expected another game to ever severe the umbilical cord like connection to KOTOR but since this arrived I have been blasting the hell out of the "Targets" and having a ball doing it. Almost exactly the same as the first title, with some improvements on gameplay and details, weapons etc. To be honest once you start playing all the fun washes away any shortcomings. Its a fast paced action shooter with added dynamics that make it easy to play again and again.Very addictive. If you liked the first you probably have bought this already..If not, get yourself a copy now. I just wish that Bradley & Co could use my newly discovered jedi powers and lightsabre against the infidels!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Target down, Target down, 6 Jul 2005
By A reader (London) - See all my reviews
I thought this was very good, you can see the faces of the people as you squeeze off a few rounds, if you see them before they see you then you punish them, bad, if not just pour it on and fight your way out of it, it's just fun, you get a wide selection of weapons on each level, loads of ammo, you can switch between four different soldiers, you get stats back after each level what your accuracy was etc., I have played this so much I'm never selling it

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent squad-shooter, 31 Oct 2003
If you liked the original and games like KOTOR, Brute Force etc you will definately like this. The realistic setting appealed to me more than that of the games i just mentioned so it was ahead from the off. Kotor is an RPG which is where it falls down in my books as i'm not a big fan of the genre but it was certainly a good one, this has limited character development but you do get medals which is cool but you just get them in order as you progress (would have been better if you got them for specific heroic actions). Your squad members are all specialised to one area (Rifleman/Commander, Demolitions/Recon, Heavy Weapons and the token Sniper) and so have their own specific weapons and equipment but this can easily be passed to other teammates. That is where the RPG elements end really as this is just an action game, albeit with a slight tactical edge. The squad tactics are handled well, they take a few missions to get the hang of but by mission 10 you will be laughing in the face of the enemy. A fine element of this game is its use of vehicles, you get a wide selection from hummers to APC's to Tanks and all are able to accomodate your full team whether as a driver, gunner or passenger (most have 2 weapons). On a final note, you will start breezing through the levels as soon as you get the hang of the controls so try to pace youself and just prolong the fun as long as you can until there are new levels on XBOX Live.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing New....
It has no appeal to me, and does not live up to the standerds of the first game. Too similar with no cool new features, get Halo 2 instead.
