5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Little House Bios! 29 Jan 2011
By Jenny
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
As a Little House on the Prairie fan, I read this one after reading Ms Gilbert's and Ms Anderson's autobiographies and I have to say that Alison Arngrim's one was far superior!

It was easy to read with a very witty style of writing. It was thoroughly interesting throughout with absolutely no boring bits or long-winded fill-ins (as a lot of celebrity bios seem to have). I found this one hard to put down and finished it within two days. If you have read the other two or not, I would definitely recommend this one.

It's not all about the TV show, though the bits about the show are hilarious - she manages to convey her thoughts about herself and the other actors on the show brilliantly. There is also much serious stuff about the author's troubled childhood, her 'unusual' parents and her later charity work. I can see that Ms Arngrim is very down to earth in her approach to fame and life in general and at the end of the book she says that she is happy. She deserves to be!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! 10 Feb 2011
Format:Hardcover
I have to agree with the previous reviewer, this book is brilliant, easy to read and really funny.
I am also a Little House fan and found her insights into the show fascinating and entertaining. Obviously much of the book is about her own life, before and after Little House and this is also entertaining and sometimes, a little sad. It's amazing to me how Alison Arngrim has managed to remain so down to earth after all she's been through. I am full of admiration for this woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars A STUNNING READ 24 Mar 2012
By HAYLING BOOK & MUSIC VENUE (HBMV) TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Once in a while, you come across one of those autobiograpical books that you just can't put down..this is one of them.

As the title alludes, Alison Arngrim played the awful Nellie Oleson on 'Little House'. However, this wonderful woman could not be further from her character.

Through Nellie, she takes us on her adventure through the filming of this wonderful programme but also weaves us in and out of her private life whilst all this is going on, bringing us right up to date.

The book is funny, tragic, fabulously written and utterly captivating, making it a very difficult book to put down.

Arngrim is truly a inspirational lady whose honesty and openness has to be admired.

4.0 out of 5 stars Part of my childhood 14 Jan 2012
By Shell
Format:Hardcover
The first month I had this book I couldn't pick it up. It was like meeting an old friend after many years. I was too afraid we would have nothing in common and I would have to mourn what was lost. I was a latch key kid, coming home every day to a cold, empty house on a grey estate. The Little House on The Prairie TV series provided me with a substitute life where mum and dad were always around to look after you after your daily adventures on the prarie with mysterious natives, criminals on the run, wild horses - this was paradise compared to my childhood! I loved all the characters but if a show didn't feature Nellie Oleson, my world felt bleaker. Nellie and her brilliantly awful mother ('remember the way she whined, 'Nels!' whenever her husband put his foot down?) lit up my life. Even now it's a strange joy for me to see privileged people being upfront about their nastiness, consumption and greed. So much more honest than the usual middle class faux modesty, polite small talk and studied blandness. My friends and I had a 'Nellie Oleson' sneer and it always made you feel good to use it for some reason. And despite loving her, why did it always fill you with delight when she ended up in the creek after losing a round to Laura, her pristine, ruffled dresses splattered with mud, ridiculous stockinged legs waving in the air, and golden ringlets askew? Oh, and that never ending supply of candy from Oleson's Mercantile, and Willie's face when Nellie wouldn't give him any. Why were these scenes so riveting? I agree with everyone who loved reading this book, Arngrim is awesome, but frankly just having the book in the corner of the room is like an old friend smiling at you, reminding you of shared, good times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 17 May 2011
By Helen
Format:Hardcover
Loved the "little house" TV series, and still do.
Having read reviews of the other "Prairie Girls" books, I have to agree this is the best.
Well wriiten, and admire Alison for being so honest in what she's been through.
As the least liked in the show ! she has grown up to be the most liked, in my opinion.
A great book, well worth buying.

By Ju
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is a brilliant read, especially if you're a Little House on the Prairie fan. I loved it so much I bought another one as a present and the recipient loved it even more than I did. It's very well written and a real page turner. I don't think anyone reading this book will be disappointed at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Liked it ... but ... 12 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Enjoyed this book as Alison tells much about her time and experiences on Little House On The Prairie. A very brave little girl and woman with regard to her horrendous experience with her, obviously deeply disturbed, brother. I was disappointed though, to read how often in her book she attacked verbally, Melissa Sue Anderson. I thought that you let yourself down Alison by slagging her off the way you did and that you went 'over the top' in your criticism of her. I wonder how you feel now, knowing that in Melissa Sue Anderson's book she has nothing bad to say about you at all? However, on a brighter note - I have read both of the Melissa's books also and yours is the best - for me - as it dwells mainly on your time & experiences spent on LHOTP. You were a marvellous Nellie - superb at being so nasty with your haughty looks and the way you delivered your nasty comments! I LOVE watching you in Little House.
