Biography

From 1963 through to the mid-70’s, the Hollies had more hits than the Beatles. In that period alone, they had 17 Top ten hits, while “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” gave them a second No 1 hit when re-released in 1988. “I’m Alive” had been their first chart topper back in 1965. At the heart of the band since 1963 are two original members, drummer Bobby Elliott and guitarist and singer Tony… Read more in Amazon's Hollies Store

Overlooked 6 April 2009
By D. J. H. Thorn TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
In a series of largely ignored albums, 'Confessions Of The Mind' is one of The Hollies' most-ignored releases. It suffers from the lack of a classic track, though I believe 'Too Young To Be Married' was a big hit in Australia. It was released at around the turn of the 1970s and although 'He Ain't Heavy' was the band's biggest hit of the era, the songs included here are more in the mould of 'Gasoline Alley Bred'. The band sound buoyant performing their own songs. 'Survival Of The Fittest' is an excellent Clarke/Hicks/Nash relic. The remaining songs are split evenly between Clarke/Sylvester and Tony Hicks. Most of them are character sketches, often proclaiming a social conscience. Musically, the album is what The Hollies are best-known for, melodic, harmony scored light rock. If you like The Hollies, you should enjoy this.

I Bought this album when first released, and was very impressed with the alternative sound of the Hollies. This is, in my opinion, the bands best LP. Now on CD, it is a must to buy.

Nearly Perfect Post-Nash Hollies Album 24 Feb 2001
By Randall E. Adams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the Hollies' third album after the exit of Graham Nash. The Clarke/Hicks/Sylvester version of the group had fully blossomed into its own, so much that it was able to cut a rousing version of a leftover Nash song "Survival of the Fittest." This is the final Hollies album from the bubblegum era and must stand as a landmark of "haute bubblegum" with its Pete Townsend-inspired mini-opera title track and the superb domestic soap operas "Too Young to be Married" and "Little Girl." "Isn't It Nice" proves--thirty years on--to be a timeless motivational ode. The Dylanesque "Lady Please" brings together all of the classic Hollies virtues--clockwork instrumentation, seamless vocals and great sing-along value. For once, the extra orchestration is appropriate wherever placed (except for the bizarre tardy arrival of the brass on "Too Young to be Married.")

This album was recorded at roughly the same time as what may be the Hollies' absolute finest single: "Gasoline Alley Bred." It reaches the same standard and is a must-buy for anyone who enjoys harmony rock and pop.

a definite favourite 2 Jun 2009
By Eriko Sugo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a really swell album by The Hollies after Graham Nash left to join Crosby, Stills & Nash. This quickly became one of my most favourite Hollies albums so I would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially a Hollies fan. It's got the hit, "Too Young To Be Married" with a wonderful guitar solo by Tony Hicks, and one of my favourites, "Confessions Of A Mind". Of course, I can't forget the first track of the album, "Survival Of The Fittest". All of the songs are worth listening to, as with all Hollies songs. Listening to the samples (if there are samples of this album) would be great, but it would be better to listen to the album as a whole. If you're a Hollies fan, get this album for sure!

Timeless Music 1 Jan 2008
By James Harman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is one of the best CD's around, it's timeless, I first heard this when it came out as an L.P. and keep replacing the worn out copies.
It's one of those hidden gems like the Bee Gee's 'Odessa', great harmonies, lyrics and a couple of added bonus songs.
