More About the Author

Angela Clarke has spent the majority of her working life in the fashion industry, calling everyone darling. As an agent representing photographers, stylists, make up artists and hairdressers Angela produced photoshoots for high-end fashion magazines and designer labels, and was involved with numerous London and Paris Fashion Weeks.

In addition to her work in the fashion industry Angela has pursued a passion for writing. After drunkenly lecturing an editor in a curry house off Brick Lane about the lack of women writers in his paper, she landed her first column. From this auspicious and tipsy start she launched a career writing a number of tongue-in-cheek columns and lifestyle pieces for various national publications.

When not busy mucking about on Twitter, Angela can be found working on her latest book.

She lives with her husband and 421 books (at the last count).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book, ever! 22 Sep 2014
By Katie
Format:Paperback
The best book I have EVER read!! I am an aspiring 'fashionista' so thought reading this book would help with my (possible) future career... I was right, but I didn't realise how much I would enjoy it.. and laugh! I have read 'The Devil Wears Prada', but 'Confessions of a Fashionista' was so much more honest (obviously, it's not fiction..), witty, hilarious and heart-warming. I could not put it down. You feel as though Angela is telling you the story in person, I have not read a book quite like this before.

After finishing the book, I decided it did actually help with my plans for a fashion career.. I've promised myself I will stay true to myself and actually eat cake, not sniff it..

I was also thrilled to see that Angela has a website where you can leave a comment which goes direct to her - I could not believe I had a reply! This is honestly my favourite book now, so glad I picked it up in Waterstone's for my holiday read! If you enjoyed this book I do hope you will tell Angela directly via her website - I was overjoyed she wished me good luck with my future career and offered me some advice.

5 STARS! LOVE !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and Funny! 2 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I follow Angela on Twitter, which is how I found out about her book. First of all, follow Angela on Twitter, she makes interesting RTs and posts often hilarious comments. Next, read this book. If you're at all interested in the fashion industry, it's a great insight into the, often very odd, world lurking under the glamorous exterior.

After starting her career at Harrods, the author got a job at a talent agency, providing editors, etc with make up artists, hairdressers and photographers. The unsociable hours, unpleasant comments and unbelievable behaviour she witnessed during her time there is both hilarious and slightly shocking (cake sniffers, anyone?). However, the difficulties were clearly balanced out by luscious goody bags, unexpected Christmas bonuses and the excitement of being immersed in the world of fashion. The book also tells how being part of that world began to rub off on the author, and not necessarily in a good way. I love the fact that she doesn't sugar coat this, but comes out and admits there were certain aspects of her personality that were changed and affected by being immersed in what is, in effect, a very shallow, make believe world - what you see is not necessarily what you get. But, do not fear, we love her despite these foibles, and even more so when she realises that she, in her own words, has been 'a bit of a tit'.

If you are remotely interested in fashion, or the multi billion dollar world that surrounds it, I'd heartily recommend this book. It's a great read, not only for eyebrow raising anecdotes, but also just for showing up that things aren't always as glamorous as they seem and there are some people, usually those lowest on the ladder, who are working their designer clad bottoms off for very little money just to be part of the world.

Disclaimer: Beware of reading this book in public unless you don't mind being seen alone giggling like a buffoon!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulously funny and honest read! 14 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book lives up to all the reviews and really is a funny can't-put-down read. Hooked from the first page, you can't help but be completely engaged in Fashionista Angela's life, living and breathing every twist, turn and thought. The balance of humour with honesty makes this a very special book and not just for those with an interest or experience in the fashion world.
Wish there was six star rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read 10 Oct 2013
By Gem
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really had no idea what to expect when starting out reading this book, other than thinking it would be a good read for someone with a great interest in the industry and wanting something to flick through to occupy my mind. I got a lot more than I had hoped for. And finished the book in under 24 hours, unable to put it down. The writing style grasps you from the very outset, the autobiographical nature giving a sense of reality to it when other books along the same vein can feel they are lacking something.

Angela is obviously a real person, but you can actually feel that as she guides you through her years breaking into the fashion industry. We are given a brilliantly frank review of the industry through the eyes of a real person who all of us can relate to and despite being shown the ludicrous aspects (a dog needing a seat on a plane... really?) you are also shown the passion and excitement that fashion can give someone, and that you are actually able to stay true to yourself in an industry which often gets labelled as fake and sordid. Yes, you can drool over Gucci, accidentally find yourself buying Prada and end up with a terrifying bill... and still want to go home, cuddle up on the sofa and eat cake rather than simply ingest it through scent. A candid, honest account which gives you an interesting insight into a world so many long to be a part of. A must read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read With Rushed Ending
This was a little fluffy read with a light plot about fashion. I think that the ending was a bit abrupt and to the point it ended almost prematurely.
