5.0 out of 5 stars My ice man is nice man... 16 April 2013
Format:MP3 Download|Verified Purchase
and my meat man is a sweet man...This is just wonderful. Fabulous performance of great songs sang with swing, wit and style. If you like Ella and Billie, this is a little like the genetically impossible off spring of both. None of the the scat pyrotechnics of Ella though - just a great singer singing great songs with a little of the worldliness of Billie. If you are swithering over buying this, don't - buy it. If you regret it, I'll be surprised. Great sounding band too, a bit like the Sinatra records of the fifties - even though I think it was recorded in the seventies...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an essential album by a gifted blues/jazz artist. 14 Jan 1999

I love this album. Her singing is earthy, assured and powerful. Her phrasing makes each song uniquely her own. If you like Dinah Washington or Billie Holliday you owe it to yourself to listen to this album

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! 25 Mar 2001

I just bought this album yesterday, and I am now playing it for the third time. It is splendid. Phillips' style is very similar to Dinah Washington -- which means deep southern black blues singing. What is amazing about the album is that it was made in 1976, but it has the same "classic" sound as 40s/50s blues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible swinging, sexy timeless album 17 July 2009
By J. Hooten - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I have owned this album for more 30 years and it always gives me a thrill to hear it. In fact, it is in my car's CD player right now.

When I first bought it, I was not sure how old it was. It just had that classic sound of bigband sultry sassiness, with jazzy horns and drums. And, of course, Phillips' amazingly assured vocal phrasing. She was a master. I was amazed a few years later to realize that it had actually come out shortly before I had bought it.

It continues to be one of the most prized albums in my whole collection, and I love turning others on to it.
