Review

"What a delight, what a roaring, rollicking, footstomping wonder this book is. I laughed until my sides ached, and then I laughed on."

Product Description

The ordinary folk of New Orleans seem to think he is unhinged as well. Ignatius ignores them as he heaves his vast bulk through the city's fleshpots in a noble crusade against vice, modernity and ignorance. But his momma has a nasty surprise in store for him. Ignatius must get a job. Undaunted, he uses his new-found employment to further his mission - and now he has a pirate costume and a hot-dog cart to do it with ...

Yeah it drags a little here and there - but if you don't laugh out loud a few times while reading it then you need to be re-wired. Ignatius is a fantastic comic creation. I find it incredible that a movie version hasn't been made - although John candy's untimely death means that the natural star of the show is no longer with us. Carrey in a fat suit perhaps?

Couldn't put this down 5 April 2006
By Ria
I read the reviews and went on out and bought it. Funniest book have read for ages, this is one for the bookcase to read and re-read. The story ambles along from one episode to another as if you were moving from room to room with them. If you want a good read then you can't go far wrong with this book.

Unbeatable 14 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Beautifully written, very clever and moving, it is easily the best and funniest book I have ever read. Since first reading it in 1982 I have read it at least 10 times and own 3 paperback copies.

Don't hesitate; buy it and you will be forever grateful

A cult classic.
Here is a book whose title justifies it's content to a T.! The moronic, over the top insane characters J K Toole writes of are nothing I would have ever imagined putting to... Read more

A mostly satisfying and funny read.
This book grabs you as soon as you start to read it. The characterization of Ignatius j Reilly is tremendous and a joy to read, so much so that when the story moves to other... Read more

Essential and Timeless
It is almost a shame that the backstory to this wonderful novel is so dramatic. Scratch that it's a freaking tragedy that Kennedy Toole couldn't find a publisher amongst the... Read more

A Classic Protagonist
Ignatius J Reilly is an absolute gem of a character. A massively obese, over-educated, un-sexed, medievalist agoraphobic (yes, really) who lives with his poor doting mother and... Read more

100 words on A Confederacy of Dunces
I finished this two weeks ago, and what do I remember of it? A well drawn, funny, original, loathsome, somehow-sympathetic protagonist. A vivid and varied supporting cast. Read more

Don't get this joke.
I know people I respect who think this is a masterpiece, but I found it tiresome, trite, and obvious. Slapstick masquerading as art. Read more

Fantastic - evocative, inspiring and engaging. Great writing about a fantastic city - it puts me in mind of that great NOLA title by Richard Katrovas - Mystic Pig. Read more
