Format:Paperback
This is an excellent book for anyone who is thinking of, or is a conductor, it has loads to teach everyone. One of the books strongest points is the way it is so thorough in it's technique and discusses many issues as to what is appropriate to wear, do with the other hand, say etc without being boring. It has examples for you to try if you want in every section which become progressive as you read through. At such a great price, I believe this is a MUST for anyone who is a musical director of any kind, be it in a school or theatre, or community show, or orchestra or other musical group.

Format:Spiral-bound
This is a short book with lots of useful information. It's very practical, with clear diagrams. It seems a little dated now, and some passages may come across as very American-biased. It's also full of amusing asides which made me chuckle as I read it. It has different exercises for beginners and experienced conductors, although I can't imagine very experienced conductors picking this up unless pressed. But it's a good reference guide when you have a particular conducting problem, and well worth a read through for beginners or those with some experience.

I bought this book originally because it was offered by a handbell music/supply company. Since then it has been recommended to me by just about all the conductors I have worked with. It has the basics but also has details that even a pro can go back to again and again. Its format is very compressed and the presentation is entertaining and straightforward.

This is a great book
This book I've found is great. The best line is when it says that a band does't follow a conductor , it anticipates what the conductor is going to do next. this is so true. Read more
