Best Book I Have Ever Read 6 Feb 2004
By NDH - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was recommended to me by a psychologist and it took me about 3 days to read it completely through. And as soon as I finished reading it, I started re-reading it. I'm not sure I'll ever need any other book on assertion and passiveness after reading this one. There's really nothing else that can be said about the issues.

And what are the issues? Well, Salter argues that nearly every psychological problem is caused by a lack of excitation (or assertion). Where did these problems come from? From our parents and society who conditioned us just like Pavlov's dogs when we were young and impressionable. All we really need is a healthy excitation (or even sadism) to be happy in life; and there are numerous ways to condition excitation and practice it.

Actually, I don't even know how to review this book. It is excellent and well worth the 2-3 week wait for Amazon to ship it. If you even think you might possibly have any emotional or psychological problem, then pick this book up. And try to survive for those two weeks or so; a new and better and more sadistic life will begin once you read this.

Very informational and interesting. 12 Jan 2007
By Christine Dits - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Conditioned Reflex Therapy is a good book for anyone wanting to know a bit more about people with excitatory personalities and those with inhibitory personalities. Andrew Salter's description of these two seperate classes of individuals helped me look at myself in an objective way in order to makes changes to myself. I have not finished it yet, but, so far, the book seems rather accurate. However, there are still a few things in there I DO NOT agree with, which is the fact that adults who are inhibitory are like that because their parents created an environment for them that would make them like that (not purposefully, but that was just the way their childhood was). He seems to blame one's fallibities on their childhood and their parents. I DO NOT think this is the sole reason for someone's, say, stuttering habits, drinking habits, obsessive compulsive habits, etc. I think people partly MAKE themselves to be like that. It is our thoughts that drive our actions. I also think one's either mental, emotional or physical disorders can be hereditary (in the genes).

Other than that, ... the book is, overall, a good read.
