Product Description

Review

Turnbull continues his series of solid Scottish police procedurals (Big Money, etc.) with a case involving the gory murders of two Glasgow prostitutes. Stephanie Craigellachie's street life is hard, remunerative but barely sufficient to support her drug habit. Then she's found stabbed to death in an alley, and the killing rings a bell with police detective Ray Sussock, bringing to mind brutal James Purdue - who was found guilty of a young woman's murder, jailed for ten years, released, and unheard from for another ten. Sussock had thought him insane at the time of his conviction; and with the discovery of the ferociously mutilated body of another prostitute, Toni Durham, he's sure Purdue is their man. Toni was involved in the drug trade and the making of porno movies - for which she'd recruited Stephanie. The trail to Purdue will mn through raunchy bars, tattoo parlors, and talks with a clutch of streetwalkers and an informer named Tuesday Noon - all of it making a vivid picture of Glasgow's underside, along with an acid sketch of Stephanie's coldly proper fosterparents. The villain is known; his capture provides a satisfying if rather flat finale to a wellcrafted, unsentimental, and absorbing offering for procedural fans. (Kirkus Reviews)
