Product Description

Two CDs of digitally remastered masterpieces from King Crimson's many incarnations, all lead by the guitar majesty of Robert Fripp. Spanning the years 1969-2003, this may not hit upon every musical turn that Fripp and the boys have taken, but it certainly tries. Over 30 tracks including "21st Century Schizoid Man", "Vroom", "Epitaph", "Ladies Of The Road", "Larks' Tongues In Aspic Pt. 1", "Heartbeat", "Discipline" and many more.

This CD set is excellent.
Heck I already have all the tracks on the original CDs and even I'm tempted to buy it again... for the car..

Now I'm guessing that you are reading this because you are a) New to King Crimson or B) have heard something in the past and suspect it is something you would like but don't quite know where to start.
but maybe the price as a starter, almost 10 GBP seems a little high??

But don't let yourself hesitate for one moment longer for there is simply not one bad track on here and more so some really excellent ones make no mistake this is a group of muscians at the height of their power playing really great music well.

There are 32 standout tracks no less.. Each and every one has its own merit.

It would be near impossible to list or describe outstanding tracks and their story there simply are too many.. you might just as well select a CD from Crimson's extensive catalogue and read the reviews of that particular one to get a better description.

I really would urge you to take a chance and buy this trul;y excellent double CD set...

BUT..

This really should be banned BECAUSE I suspect that just like me when you hear one track then another you realise just how good this band are and you will end searching out up buying the whole lot. Just Like I seem to have done!
This is like crack cocaine to a recovering addict!! (apologies for any I offend with this comparison)

If you do I envy your journey over to the Crimson side .

You have been warned!!

As an overview for those new to King Crimson, this is great, as it gives you a sample of every Crimson incarnation that ever existed. For those familiar with the early Crimson, be aware that two of the tracks have been cut severely - Starless and Lark's Tongues part 1. Apart from the omission of Cirkus from Lizard, no complaints - there are 160 minutes of music here.

This is a great selection at a good price. I owned In the Wake of Poseidon and In the Court of the Crimson King in the 70s but there is so much more to King Crimson as this set shows. Certainly whetted my appetite for more. Shame about some of the abridged versions but how else are you going to get so much great music on 2 cds. Thoroughly recommended.

Although I have liked King Crimson's music for a long time, this the first album of theirs that I have bought. It was well worth the wait! Potential buyers should listen to some of the track samples before they spend their money. King Crimson's eccentric rock style, with some use of sound-phasing techniques, will not be to everybody's taste

Although I'm old enough to remember them, King Crimson somewhat passed me by the first time around. When I looked for a CD to belatedly aquaint myself with their work, I found this two disc complation. Not only is it generally excellent, but it carefully selects tracks from the different phases of the band' existance. So while I was thrilled to hear the older material, I was was also presented with a story that almost comes up to date. (Well to 2003, at least.) All the line ups are interesting, though the Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/(Muir/Cross)one stands out for me. ('Starless', 'Red' etc.) To describe the music; it's progressive rock, but with avant-garde and even jazz sensibilities.

This CD is a good place to start if like me you want to dip your toe in the Crimson pond.

Bought this CD because I remember listening to KC in the 80's and really liked them due to their originality compared to some of the other other groups at the time. This CD brought back some great memories i.e. Larks Tounges In Aspic, 21st Century Schitzoid Man, Red, In The Court Of The Crimson King, Epitaph etc. but I must admit I'm not that keen on some of the other tracks. Worth buying as a great intro to KC music, but be prepared for some dissapointing tracks (as well as some some great music). Seems to me as if they were trying to get into mainstream music but it just wasn't going to happen. Personally I prefer the older formats in which they excelled, but that's just my opinion.

A good starting point for an intro to king crimson, but buy some of their other albums to see just how good they actually were.
