As the range of words in my Beginner's dictionary starts to fail me, this dictionary steps in. A must have buy.

In providing translations of English words into Italian, this dictionary is first-class. In providing translations of Italian words into English, it's dismal. For some unaccountable reason many detailed word descriptions are written in Italian, which severely limits comprehension and usefulness. Add to that a ponderous and bewildering section of supposedly 'useful' examples of correspondence (letters - as opposed to emails) in which neither English nor Italian versions provide translations of each other. This volume will frustrate both English and Italian users and will be of very limited use to both.

Probably I thought it would be more like the Spanish or French dictionaries with lots of examples of curent use, but it seems to be just a dictionary. Very full and clear, but I miss the extensive examples

Gives me all the details and various meanings that a word can have so that complex translation is much easier.

Perfect for those needing up-to-date translations 22 Oct 2012
By Bryan Kerr - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I purchased several Italian dictionaries before buying this one, and I'm very happy with particular edition. This is an English to Italian and Italian to English dictionary. I purchased this version because I've always been pleased with the work of Oxford dictionaries; this was no exception. The level of erudition one finds in this dictionary is immense. The translators chose more up-to-date English translations for the Italian words, which I have found to be very helpful in my own translations. Another aspect of this dictionary that makes it better than the average is its breadth combined with its size. No one wants to carry around a behemoth sized book if it can be avoided but no one wants to sacrifice content either. This Concise edition is a perfect size without comprising content. It's rare that I can't find the word I'm looking for. The binding underneath the dust jacket is attractive, and its condition after prolonged use has remained very high. I would recommend this dictionary to college students studying Italian or native speakers looking for a dictionary with useful English translations.

good dictionary 25 Sep 2011

My husband and I are native Italian speakers and we have purchased this dictionary to help us with some English terms we might not be familiar with and to find the exact translation of some Italian words.
This is a well-done concise dictionary, perfect to keep at hand while reading a book or to check pronunciation and spelling while writing letters and emails. i would recommend this to anybody that needs a quick but complete reference book

Would have preferred cut away thumb index for each letter. There is no English translation of the infinitive in the section listing Italian verbs.

Its a good dictionary but marely used it. I like the book dough. The only time I used it is when our instructor insisted we used it in class for our exam.
