The Concise Oxford English Dictionary - 12th Edition on CD-ROM version 1.0 is a GREAT piece of technology for your computer. It includes, 240,000 words, phrases and definitions with 50,000 spoken audio pronunciation. The latter, it very helpful, just click the audio icon and one of a number of voices will give the correct pronunciation.
It is easy to install, though follow the instruction carefully which includes leaving the CD-ROM inside the CDR-drive for when you use the dictionary for the first time only. There is a useful contrast button which changes the background and text colour. You can also increase or decrease the size of the font of the word definition. The dictionary is also predictive in that as you type the nearest available words appears and as you add more letters, different words appear.
A clever and educational feature is the Lost for Words - just click on it and a word and its definition appears - a random calculus of 240,000 words etc. mean you will be learning something new everyday, however each time you open the programme a new word and its definition appears. Downside, this dictionary does not have an icon at the bottom of the computer like other programmes have and no Thesaurus and I do no mean a dinosaur! There is also and Anagram and Crossword Puzzle Solver.
